Job Description

Company Overview Asphalt Patch Systems has been the premier paving contractor for Pierce, King and Thurston counties since 1981. We are a family-owned business providing services in asphalt, concrete, and saw cutting in both the private and public sectors. Our asphalt services include utility and residential patching, as well as parking lot maintenance and custom driveways. We also provide concrete curbing, sidewalks, patios, driveways, and custom stamping. Summary Asphalt Patch Systems is looking for a reliable, hardworking individual to fill immediate Diesel Mechanic openings on our shop team. The Diesel Mechanic is a skilled journeyman level position who performs a variety of complex duties to track, maintain, and repair vehicles, trucks, and equipment. This position requires a considerable amount of skill and expertise in areas such as electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and diesel mechanics. This position often works independent of other staff, so the incumbent must have the technical ability to prioritize work and work safely.

• Please note that because this position works with and around heavy equipment and machinery, it is a safety sensitive position subject to pre-employment and random drug tests, including screening for non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites.

Responsibilities:

Performs job duties at maintenance shop or on jobsites using shop or service truck. Diagnoses, repairs, and rebuilds a diverse fleet of commercial vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, trailers, pavers, rollers, uniloaders, grinders, excavators, and more. Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including oiling, lubricating, and cleaning. Performs various welding and fabrication repair and maintenance tasks. Reads, interprets, and implements complex instructions and schematics. Uses a variety of tools and equipment, including power tools, hand tools, and welding equipment. Prepares and maintains appropriate records on vehicles and equipment. Orders, organizes, and maintains inventory of shop supplies with assistance and oversight of Fleet & Facilities Manager. Communicates with vendors and suppliers to ensure material and supplies are available and ready for use in the shop. Remains at the shop until all crews have returned. Completes and submits administrative paperwork in a timely and accurate manner, including receipts, purchase orders, and invoices. Occasionally operates heavy machinery and assists on the crew with production and operations. Maintains an orderly shop. Adheres to all company, state, and federal safety standards. Other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Minimum 5 years of diesel mechanical experience maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing trucks and/or heavy equipment Knowledge of DOT regulations, DOT certification, and experience performing DOT inspections Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment Basic computer skills Valid driver's license and safe driving record Preferred Education and Experience Previous experience working with air brakes Previous experience operating heavy equipment related to road construction or repair Current and valid US Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement
