Job Description

About the Role We're looking for a reliable, hands-on Diesel Mechanic/Operations Assistant to join our team and support smooth, efficient operations in a fast-paced environment. This is a dynamic position with a mix of physical, organizational, and technical tasks—from maintaining diesel trucks and equipment to coordinating maintenance and inventory. You'll work closely with the Yard Manager, drivers, and shop team, gaining valuable experience with the clear goal of stepping up into the lead Yard Manager role over time. If you thrive on variety, enjoy problem-solving in an outdoor setting, and have mechanical know-how—specifically with diesel trucks and trailers—this could be the perfect fit. We're especially seeking candidates with diesel mechanical experience to help keep our fleet running strong. Key Responsibilities Support the Yard Manager in overseeing daily yard operations for maximum efficiency, safety, and organization. Perform hands-on tasks including power washing, painting, applying decals/stickers, gravel leveling, lawn mowing, general yard upkeep, and light facility maintenance. Conduct or coordinate mechanical work on trucks, trailers, and equipment (e.g., basic diagnostics, repairs, and preventive tasks). Schedule and track vehicle/trailer maintenance with drivers and our mechanic/shop team to minimize downtime.
Assist with inventory control:
track parts and supplies, place orders as needed, and maintain accurate records. Safely operate equipment such as forklifts, pressure washers, paint sprayers, welders (if qualified), wrenches, and other shop tools. Help ensure a clean, organized, and hazard-free yard while promoting teamwork and safety standards. What We're Looking For Strong mechanical aptitude — especially hands-on experience with diesel engines , trucks, trailers, or heavy equipment (highly preferred and a major plus—tell us about your background!). Prior mechanical experience is required; welding skills are a bonus, but not mandatory. Physical capability for heavy lifting, outdoor work in various weather, and active tasks throughout the day. Reliable, self-motivated, and eager to learn new skills quickly. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team under the Yard Manager's guidance. Valid driver's license (CDL a plus but not required). Forklift experience or willingness to get certified is helpful. Why Join Us? This role offers real growth potential: start as a Diesel Mechanic /Operations Assistant and progress to leading the yard as you master the operations. You'll get hands-on variety, direct impact on our fleet and facility, and the chance to build skills in a supportive environment. No two days are the same—perfect for someone who likes action and responsibility. If you're ready to roll up your sleeves, contribute to a tight-knit team, and grow into a leadership position, we want to hear from you! How to Apply Send your resume and a brief note about your mechanical experience (especially diesel-related) to amanda@ramsdenservices.com . We're excited to meet talented people like you—apply today!
