We are seeking skilled Power Generation Technicians to join our growing team in Altoona Iowa.
Job Summary:
As a Power Generation Field Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel and natural gas generators, transfer switches and related electrical distribution systems, as well as some diesel fire pump and industrial applications. You will work on a variety of projects, ensuring our clients' power systems operate efficiently and reliably. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on industrial applications, including generators, engines, fire pumps, and control systems. Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and electronic issues in generator systems. Conduct load bank testing, system upgrades, and installations as needed. Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and company protocols. Document service activities, including detailed reports on maintenance, repairs, and parts used. Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with clients to ensure exceptional service delivery. Respond to emergency service calls and provide after hours support as needed. Maintain tools, equipment, and service vehicles in excellent working conditions.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or vocational training in power generation, electrical, or mechanical systems preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Power Generation Technician or in a related field preferred (e.g., diesel mechanic, electrical technician). Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engines, electrical systems, and control panels. Familiarity with generator/engine brands such as Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler, John Deere, MTU, Detroit, or similar. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and other testing equipment. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; CDL is a plus. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Willingness to travel to various job sites and work flexible hours, including after-hours shifts.
Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and working in inconvenient locations. Willing and able to work in most all-weather conditions and environments. Must provide and maintain own basic tools. A list of required tools can be provided if requested.
