Job Summary The Substation Commissioning Technician is responsible for the field installation, calibration, testing, verification, and documentation of equipment and instruments within the technical discipline. This role provides functional direction and supervision to other discipline technicians, supports startup and initial plant operations, and ensures adherence to safety and quality standards. The technician acts as a lead person, directing discipline commissioning technicians without having direct management responsibility. Job Description Perform field installation and calibration of equipment and instruments within the scope of the technical discipline. Prepare and maintain required documentation in a timely manner. Provide functional direction and supervision to other discipline technicians on staff. Set up equipment and perform equipment calibration. Confirm device set points per design requirements. Perform device loop checks to the Distributed Control System (DCS) per subsystem start-up package. Load programs into subsystem programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Perform required functional testing of equipment and systems. Verify equipment installation per design specifications. Walk down subsystems for erection completion. Identify broken or failed devices and coordinate replacements within completion schedules. Prepare equipment and subsystem turnover documentation. Support plant operations during startup and initial operations. Provide functional supervision of other discipline technicians assigned to the project. Adhere to applicable safety and quality standards. Act in the capacity of a lead person and direct discipline commissioning technicians. Skills Required 7+ years of startup experience preferred. Knowledge of Project Instructions Manual and contract documents. Knowledge of Division Policies. Supervisory skills. Multi-tasking skills. Problem-solving skills. Computer skills. Knowledge of discipline technical principles related to power plants. Knowledge of tools, equipment, and instruments used in performance of job duties. Knowledge of internal engineering systems and tools. OSHA 10 Hour Training. Education/Training/Certifications Must be Associate's degree preferred. Applicable certification preferred. Additional Requirements Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
