Position Summary The Senior Relay Technician position is essential for the safe and reliable operation of critical electrical infrastructure within the facility. This role requires advanced technical expertise in protective relays, electrical protection systems, and associated Operational Technology (OT) communications that are essential to maintaining system reliability, supporting commissioning and energization activities, reducing operational risk, and ensuring compliance with maintenance and electrical safety standards. Additionally, the position contributes to long-term reliability initiatives, troubleshooting efforts, and provides technical mentorship within the Infra Electrical Maintenance organization.
Role and Responsibilities Here's What You'll Be Responsible For:
Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) for protective relays, electrical protection systems, and associated control schemes supporting critical facility infrastructure. Perform testing, troubleshooting, calibration, maintenance, and commissioning of protective relays, switchgear controls, breaker trip circuits, and power distribution protection systems. Support safe and reliable operation of medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution systems by responding to faults, abnormal conditions, nuisance trips, and electrical incidents. Analyze relay event reports, oscillography, SCADA/FMCS data, and electrical system alarms to identify root causes and improve system reliability. Develop, maintain, and improve preventive maintenance procedures, relay testing programs, switching procedures, and technical documentation in alignment with NFPA 70B and site maintenance standards. Support Operational Technology (OT) and communications systems associated with electrical infrastructure, including SEL communications, fiber networks, SCADA/FMCS integration, and relay networking. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training for maintenance technicians and contractors while supporting commissioning, energization, and operational readiness activities across the facility. Skills and Qualifications Here's what you'll need: Minimum 7 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience, including at least 3 years working directly with protective relays and power distribution systems. Demonstrated experience testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning protective relays, switchgear, breakers, transformers, and medium-voltage electrical equipment. Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, relay logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings. Experience using electrical test equipment such as relay test sets, multimeters, meggers, power quality analyzers, and associated relay software tools. Strong working knowledge of electrical safety practices including LOTO, arc flash protection, NFPA 70E, and safe switching operations in an industrial or mission-critical environment. High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree, apprenticeship, or electrical license preferred. The current base salary range for this role is between $23.50 - $46.00/hour. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
