Job Description

P&C Relay Technician Big Spring, TX | West Texas Travel Only We are recruiting a Senior Protection & Control Relay Technician to support high-voltage transmission substations across Big Spring, Midland, Dickens, and Gail. This is a permanent, regional position with no nationwide travel. You will perform relay testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, SCADA checkout, and system event response across critical West Texas transmission infrastructure. Responsibilities
  • Test, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot SEL and GE protective relays
  • Perform SCADA and RTU checkouts
  • Read and interpret schematics, AC/DC drawings, and relay logic
  • Support breakers, transformers, reactors, switches, and other substation equipment
  • Lead contractors and junior technicians during field activities
  • Complete testing, maintenance, and compliance documentation
  • Participate in an on-call rotation Requirements
  • 4+ years of substation P&C, relay testing, or commissioning experience
  • Hands-on experience with SEL and GE relays
  • Experience with Doble, Omicron, Protection Suite, or similar test platforms
  • Ability to troubleshoot relay logic, control circuits, and SCADA systems
  • Willingness to travel throughout West Texas
ERCOT, NERC
