Job Description

Summary Responsible for maintaining, constructing, and retrofitting electric substation equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, switches, battery systems, tap changers, cooling systems, lighting arresters, and other equipment. Duties also include installation of concrete foundations, support steel structures, station insulators, ground grids, and bus.
Pay Range:
(Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities May work around energized high voltage substation and transmission equipment up to and including 345KV. Install, maintain, and repair breakers and transformers. Perform switch and clearance orders as instructed by dispatch. Conduct general substation maintenance and repairs. Perform infrared testing and interpret equipment readings. Monthly inspections on transformers, breakers, relays, batteries, generators and other equipment Construct new substations and modify existing ones as needed. Pull and terminate control wiring in control houses and substation equipment. Support 24-hour operations by assisting with standby and callout duties outside of regular work hours. Some travel to remote system facilities with overnight stays. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma. Up to Two years of relevant experience. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License. Valid Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Certified Crane Operator or the ability to obtain within 2 years of hire. Ability to complete the Garland Power & Light Apprentice Substation Technician Program. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Work is conducted in energized substations, switch yards, and generating plants. Majority of work is performed outdoors with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Have questions or need assistance? Our friendly HR team is here to help!
