MUST-HAVES
Technical Expertise:
3-10 years of experience in electrical substation testing and commissioning In-depth knowledge of three-phase power systems and protection/control schemes Hands-on experience programming and testing protection relays from GE, SEL, Alstom, Schneider, Siemens, and ABB Proven ability to read and interpret AC/DC elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings Proficiency with relay test sets including SEL, GE, Beckwith, ABB, Basler, and electromechanical relay manufacturers Equipment testing expertise across circuit breakers, transformers, circuit switchers, MOABs, CTs, PTs, batteries/chargers, and related substation equipment
Additional Requirements:
Valid, unrestricted driver's license (required) Ability to travel up to 25% Strong independent work ethic with ability to lead crews during critical commissioning phases Safety-focused mindset for diverse work site situations
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Lead Commissioning & Testing Operations Perform and direct all aspects of electrical testing for substations and generator plants, including protection relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and critical control equipment Conduct DC Functional Trip Testing prior to energization and oversee final commissioning and startup procedures Review specifications and engineering drawings to analyze system operation and develop testing procedures Mentor & Develop Talent Train and mentor new engineers and technicians in relay testing, equipment testing, and substation commissioning best practices Build technical capabilities across the team while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety Drive Customer Success Service newly designed and experimental equipment, instilling confidence in clients through technical expertise Develop and maintain strong customer relationships while meeting scheduling and financial commitments Handle challenging situations with professionalism and constructive problem-solving Maintain Excellence Develop standard testing documentation and maintain all project records, certifications, and calibration files Keep service and test equipment, tools, and inventory to ISO requirements and in optimal working condition Contribute to client proposal development and cost estimation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience commissioning new and modified substations Knowledge of rotating machinery including generators and excitation systems Familiarity with SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems, including testing RTUs locally and remotely Experience with transfer switches, line tuners, wave traps, and carrier relays AutoCAD proficiency Ability to develop programming macros for automated relay testing NICET certification or equivalent (or ability to obtain)
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Base Salary:
$120,000-$150,000 annually (based on location and experience)
