Job Title:
Field Service Engineer III Job Description The Field Service Engineer III role focuses on solving the most complex technical challenges in the field, acting as an experienced escalation point for system performance, reliability, and integration issues that others cannot resolve. You will take deep technical ownership of advanced vacuum-based systems, particularly Ion Beam Deposition equipment, and play a key role in protecting customer trust, accelerating recovery from critical events, and driving product and process improvements across the broader engineering organization. This position is ideal for an engineer who seeks high autonomy, extensive hands-on work, and visible impact on both customer success and product direction. Responsibilities Lead the most complex installations, upgrades, and field escalations involving Ion Beam Deposition systems when standard procedures are insufficient, ensuring full restoration of system performance. Diagnose and resolve multi-disciplinary system issues across vacuum, motion, electronics, controls, and software using structured, data-driven root cause analysis methods. Drive corrective and preventive actions that address underlying issues, ensuring solutions are robust, thoroughly documented, and clearly communicated to engineering and product support teams. Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customer engineering teams by providing expert guidance on system optimization, operational stability, and best-practice usage of advanced vacuum-based equipment. Act as the primary on-site escalation authority for assigned customer accounts, independently prioritizing issues based on customer impact, production urgency, and overall business criticality. Partner closely with Engineering, Operations, and Product Support to improve system serviceability, enhance reliability, and reduce installation and commissioning cycle times. Develop clear, detailed service documentation, including procedures, troubleshooting guides, and best practices, to support knowledge sharing and reduce repeat escalations. Support live installations and commissioning activities at customer sites, ensuring systems meet performance specifications and customers receive effective training on operation and maintenance. Contribute field insights and feedback that inform product design improvements, reliability enhancements, and future service strategies. Travel between customer sites and factory locations as needed to support training, installations, escalations, and continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Skills At least 8 years of experience as a hands-on Field Engineer working on complex technical systems. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Strong experience with vacuum technologies, including turbomolecular pumps, dry mechanical pumps, cryogenic pumps, helium leak detection, residual gas analyzers, and vacuum instrumentation. Advanced experience supporting complex vacuum-based systems in cleanroom environments. Proven ability to lead complex installations, upgrades, and escalations for capital equipment or similar high-technology systems. Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and resolving multi-disciplinary issues spanning vacuum, motion, electronics, controls, and software. Ability to perform structured, data-driven root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Strong communication skills to serve as a technical advisor to customer engineering teams and to clearly document technical solutions. Ability to work independently in the field, prioritize multiple issues, and make sound decisions under time pressure. Willingness and ability to travel between factory locations and customer sites as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with Ion Beam Deposition systems or similar advanced vacuum deposition equipment. Experience in developing or improving service procedures and technical documentation for complex systems. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations, and Product Support, to improve product reliability and serviceability. Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and best practices for operating and maintaining vacuum-based tools in controlled environments. Comfort with acting as a high level escalation point and representing the service organization directly with customer engineering and operations teams. Interest in influencing product direction through structured feedback from field performance and customer interactions. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Sugar Land, TX.
