POSITION OVERVIEW
The Mitigation Crew Chief serves as the field leader and job captain for all mitigation work, often being the first NFR representative on-site. This role sets the tone for the customer experience and referral partner confidence through professionalism, technical expertise, and effective crew leadership. The Crew Chief leads the mitigation crew in executing the mitigation plan, performing assessments, managing equipment, and maintaining site safety and cleanliness. They also support customer communication and documentation to ensure smooth project execution and compliance with company standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead, manage, and hold accountable the mitigation field crew by assigning tasks, monitoring work quality, and enforcing safety and professionalism standards
Arrive on-site punctually with a clean, stocked truck, full uniform, and proper PPE, establishing a calm and confident presence with customers
Perform initial technical assessments using moisture meters, thermal imaging, and visual inspections to confirm affected areas and loss scope
Set up drying and mitigation equipment (air movers, dehumidifiers, containment, negative pressure, HEPA filtration) according to job requirements and standards
Oversee and perform small to moderate demolition within scope; escalate additional demo needs to Operations
Adjust mitigation plans as conditions evolve and communicate changes promptly to Coordinators or Project Managers
Provide clear, empathetic communication to customers regarding daily work, next steps, equipment impact, and timelines, reinforcing or supporting Sales Rep messaging as needed
Obtain and document work authorizations, take first-day photos and readings, and maintain accurate drying logs and notes throughout the job lifecycle
Maintain site cleanliness and safety by ensuring trash removal, nail pickup, and orderly equipment placement
Train and coach technicians in field mitigation procedures, documentation, customer interaction, and safety protocols
Address and correct poor work habits or safety issues immediately; escalate ongoing performance concerns to Operations
Represent NFR's brand positively through professional appearance, conduct, and respect for customer property
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 2 years of experience in mitigation, water damage restoration, or related field
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Certification in IICRC Water Damage Restoration (WRT) or equivalent preferred at hire or within probation period
Proven leadership experience in a field technician or crew lead role
Strong knowledge of mitigation equipment, drying techniques, and safety standards
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Additional IICRC certifications (ASD, AMRT)
Experience with thermal imaging and moisture detection technology
Prior experience in customer-facing roles within restoration or construction
Familiarity with industry-standard documentation and reporting software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly

Manual dexterity for equipment setup and demolition tasks
WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily field-based with travel to multiple job sites daily
Exposure to water-damaged structures, dust, mold, and construction debris
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
Work may include evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs as needed
Pay:
$22.00 - $26.00 per hour
