This is a hands-on, customer-facing position requiring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Our field technicians work on large 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines used in aerospace, plastics, composites, marine, transportation, and other advanced manufacturing industries. The ideal candidate can diagnose complex equipment problems, communicate clearly with customers and internal teams, and work independently while representing DMS professionally in the field. Primary Responsibilities Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and CNC control-related problems. Install, commission, and test new and relocated CNC machines. Perform preventive maintenance, machine inspections, and accuracy checks. Troubleshoot servo drives, motors, encoders, sensors, switches, VFDs, spindles, tool changers, lubrication systems, and related components. Identify machine geometry, alignment, backlash, repeatability, and positioning concerns. Perform or assist with laser calibration, ball-bar testing, and machine alignment when trained and qualified. Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, manuals, and technical documentation. Communicate with DMS technical support, engineering, parts, and service management during field assignments. Provide customers with clear explanations of findings, completed work, and recommended next steps. Document labor, travel, machine conditions, troubleshooting performed, parts used, and follow-up requirements. Complete detailed service reports and obtain customer sign-off before leaving the site. Take photographs and gather machine data when additional engineering or technical review is required. Provide remote technical support when assigned. Follow all customer-site and DMS safety requirements. Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, computer equipment, and company property. Participate in technical training and continue developing knowledge of DMS equipment and CNC systems. Travel Requirements Frequent overnight travel is required up to 75% Assignments may involve multiple consecutive days at a customer facility. Travel may include driving and commercial air travel throughout the United States. Occasional international travel may be required. Some schedule flexibility is necessary when customer downtime, installation schedules, or travel interruptions affect an assignment. Candidates must be able to obtain a passport and meet the requirements for customer-site access. Required Qualifications Experience servicing, maintaining, operating, or building CNC machines or similar industrial equipment. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability. Ability to read electrical schematics and use a digital multimeter safely. Understanding of motors, drives, sensors, relays, contactors, and industrial control circuits. Ability to diagnose equipment problems systematically rather than relying solely on replacing components. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while traveling. Comfortable communicating directly with customers in high-pressure machine-down situations. Basic computer proficiency, including email, Microsoft Office, and electronic service documentation. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to pass applicable background checks and customer-site requirements. High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Technical degree, industrial maintenance certification, military technical training, or equivalent experience. Experience with 3-axis or 5-axis CNC routers, machining centers, or automated manufacturing equipment. Experience with FANUC, Fagor, Siemens, or similar CNC control systems. Experience troubleshooting servo systems, VFDs, PLC-controlled equipment, and industrial networks. Experience with HSD spindles, automatic tool changers, vacuum systems, or aggregate machining heads. Experience performing machine installation, leveling, geometry verification, or calibration. Familiarity with laser interferometers, ball-bar systems, or other precision measurement equipment. Experience working in aerospace, composites, plastics, woodworking, marine, or advanced manufacturing environments. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crouch, and work around large industrial equipment for extended periods. Ability to use ladders, hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment. Ability to work in active manufacturing environments where noise, dust, temperature changes, and personal protective equipment may be present. What Success Looks Like A successful
