Job Title:
Field Service Technician Job Description The Field Service Technician provides on-site and in-shop service for industrial valves and related equipment across New England. This role combines mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance with frequent travel, working both in the field at customer facilities and in the shop. You will inspect, diagnose, repair, and test safety pressure relief valves, isolation valves, and actuators while ensuring all work meets strict safety, quality, and industry code requirements. Responsibilities Travel regularly throughout New England to perform field service work at customer sites, including 1-2 overnight trips every other week. Report to the shop in Auburn to pick up and operate company work trucks before traveling to job sites. Conduct technical evaluations of valves by performing pre-tests, disassembly, sandblasting, and cleaning, and document findings with photos and videos. Determine the root cause of valve failures and recommend appropriate repair strategies, including parts replacement, machining, welding, or complete replacement. Execute repair work using manuals, drawings, and technical specifications, ensuring each step is clearly documented. Perform final inspections on repaired valves and equipment, and complete packaging and shipping of finished products. Carry out teardown, repair, assembly, calibration, and diagnostics of safety pressure relief valves (PRVs), isolation valves, and actuators both in the field and in the shop. Ensure all service work complies with ASME Code, NBIC requirements, and customer-specific safety and quality standards. Support field jobs that may include rigging, scaffolding, welding, machining, and basic electrical tasks as needed. Maintain shop tools, equipment, trucks, and trailers in safe, clean, and reliable working condition. Interpret blueprints and schematics to diagnose issues and guide repair and maintenance activities. Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on valves and related mechanical and electrical systems. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete service and repair tasks. Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and customers to provide status updates and technical explanations. Use Microsoft 365 and other software tools to complete documentation, reporting, and communication related to service work. Essential Skills Associate degree in a mechanical discipline or equivalent hands-on mechanical experience. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, service, and repair industrial equipment. Experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting in a maintenance or field service environment. Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout New England, including 1-2 overnight trips every other week. Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and travel on short notice. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics. Experience using hand tools and performing preventive maintenance. Comfort operating heavy equipment such as forklifts and cranes, or a strong willingness to learn. Familiarity with rigging and safely handling awkward, heavy products. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and the ability to quickly learn new software tools. Physical ability to stand, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs., and work in tight or elevated spaces. Comfort working in commercial and industrial environments on large valves and related equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a field service technician, maintenance technician, or similar mechanical role. Experience in working with safety pressure relief valves, isolation valves, or actuators. Experience performing calibration and diagnostics on industrial equipment. Exposure to ASME Code and NBIC requirements for valve service and repair. Experience with rigging, scaffolding, welding, machining, or electrical support tasks. Demonstrated curiosity and desire to continue learning new mechanical and technical skills. Comfort working independently in the field and collaboratively in a shop environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role primarily supports commercial and industrial settings, working on industrial-sized valves and related equipment. You will split your time between a shop based in Auburn and various customer sites across New England. The standard schedule is a first-shift role, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional overtime and weekend work as needed to support customer demands and field assignments. Work involves operating and maintaining shop tools, heavy equipment such as forklifts and cranes, and company trucks and trailers. You will frequently work in environments that require standing, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs., and accessing tight or elevated spaces while following safety procedures appropriate for industrial facilities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
