Job Title:
Field Service Technician Job Description The Field Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs industrial equipment with a strong focus on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and automation systems. This role combines hands-on technical work with regular travel to customer sites, performing both scheduled and unscheduled service while providing clear communication and support to internal teams and customers. Responsibilities Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on industrial equipment at customer sites and in the facility. Read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve issues. Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC motors, circuit boards, fuses, sensors, and related electrical components. Conduct testing, installation, and commissioning of equipment to ensure proper operation and performance. Perform preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset life. Use MIG welding as needed to support repair and maintenance activities. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including components and controls. Perform PLC troubleshooting and make basic PLC program edits under established guidelines. Work with automation systems to identify faults, implement corrections, and restore functionality. Communicate effectively with customers on equipment status, required repairs, and recommended maintenance. Collaborate closely with internal team members, including controls technicians, service technicians, designers, and programmers, to resolve complex technical issues. Document service activities, repairs performed, parts used, and recommendations for future maintenance. Travel to customer sites approximately 20-40% of the year, typically for 3-5 days at a time, while maintaining a professional and customer-focused presence. Adhere to safety procedures and best practices while working on electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. Essential Skills Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics. Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on hydraulic experience. Experience troubleshooting electrical systems, including AC and DC backgrounds. Practical experience working with AC/DC motors, circuit boards, fuses, and sensors. Ability to perform PLC troubleshooting on industrial equipment. Capability to perform basic PLC program edits. Experience with hydraulic systems, including diagnosis and repair. Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and technical documentation. Competence in performing testing, installation, maintenance, and preventative maintenance on equipment. Ability to perform MIG welding when required for repairs. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in electrical, mechanical, and automation environments. Effective verbal communication skills for interacting with internal teams and customers. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with automation systems in an industrial or field service setting. Background in service and repair of complex industrial equipment. Comfort working independently in the field while coordinating with a small technical team. Ability to manage travel commitments of approximately 20-40% of the year, typically in 3-5 day trips. Work Environment This is a first-shift position, Monday through Friday, typically starting at 6:00 a.m. and working until the job is complete, averaging around 45 hours per week. The role involves approximately 20-40% travel throughout the year, usually in trips of 3-5 days at a time, with weekends at home and no back-to-back multiweek travel. Work is based across three facilities in Hopkins, and you will move between buildings depending on the equipment being serviced. You will be part of a small, collaborative team that includes controls technicians, service technicians, a controls designer, and a controls programmer. The environment is hands-on and industrial, working directly with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and automation systems in both shop and customer-site settings. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Hopkins, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
