Job Description

Job Summary:
GL Power is seeking a skilled and customer-focused Field Service & Equipment Technician to join our team. In this role, you will perform both in-shop and field service work, including assembly, repair, and testing of mechanical equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring equipment operates safely and reliably while delivering exceptional service to our customers. This position requires frequent travel (up to 50%) and offers diverse, hands-on work with advanced mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemble, install, and test mechanical equipment components per technical drawings and specifications. Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and drivetrain systems. Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections on customer equipment, prepare reports, and submit parts requirements. Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication to complete equipment repairs. Provide customer training on new equipment operation and proper maintenance. Maintain accurate service and repair records within company systems. Perform preventative maintenance on shop tools and equipment. Adhere to company and customer safety standards, housekeeping practices, and operational guidelines. Deliver excellent customer service by maintaining professionalism and clear communication with both internal teams and external clients.
Core Competencies & Skills:
Strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and drivetrain aptitude. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, engines, and transmissions. Proficient in reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. Knowledge of material-handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, rigging). Comfortable working at heights of 50+ feet and lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted. Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong customer focus. Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (required); vocational/technical training preferred. 3-5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical equipment or drivetrain repair. Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Must supply own mechanical hand tools, including ¾" drive and air tools. Welding, fabrication, and metal cutting operations a plus
Physical Requirements:
Shop and field environments with mechanical equipment hazards. Frequent regional travel (up to 50%) Standard day shifts with flexibility for overtime, weekends, or occasional night shifts. Regular interaction with customers, vendors, and internal teams in person and by phone. Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
