Job Description
Job Title:
Electro-Mechanical Field Service Technician Job Description This position is for an experienced Electro-Mechanical Field Service Technician who operates independently in demanding industrial environments. The role focuses on hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, inspections, repairs, and equipment startups involving motors, gearboxes, chains, augers, and related machinery. You will travel extensively to customer sites, work in tight and sometimes dirty conditions, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. This is a high-impact role suited to a fast-learning, highly capable technician who needs minimal supervision and communicates clearly with customers and internal teams. Responsibilities Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, inspections, repairs, and startups on motors, gearboxes, chains, augers, and related industrial equipment. Diagnose equipment issues by sight, sound, and observation, identifying problems proactively without always being directed. Use hand and power tools to perform drilling and tapping on stainless steel and other materials, and complete precise mechanical repairs and adjustments. Work in industrial environments that may be rusty, greasy, confined, or awkward, including ladders, water channels, wastewater areas, and other challenging spaces. Set up, configure, and adjust variable frequency drives (VFDs), including changing parameters to optimize motor performance. Use a multimeter and other electrical test equipment to verify proper operation of motor controls, motor protection devices, and safety systems. Work safely with both de-energized and live electrical power, following appropriate electrical safety practices and procedures at all times. Coordinate and interact professionally with other contractors and personnel on active or under-construction sites. Communicate effectively with small and large groups on-site, explaining findings, recommended repairs, and equipment status. Prepare clear, detailed daily service reports that document work performed, observations, test results, and follow-up recommendations. Manage a high travel schedule, arriving prepared with the tools, parts, and information needed to complete work efficiently. Operate with minimal supervision, making sound technical decisions in the field and escalating issues appropriately when needed. Contribute to building a stable, reliable service team by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and helping improve service processes as the department grows. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience as a field service technician in an industrial environment. At least 3 years of electro-mechanical experience working with industrial machinery. Strong mechanical skills, including experience working on motors, gearboxes, chains, augers, and similar equipment. Ability to drill and tap stainless steel and confidently use a wide range of hand and power tools. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems by sight, sound, and operational behavior. Solid electrical skills, including proficiency with a multimeter and basic electrical test equipment. Experience with motor controls, including setup and adjustment of variable frequency drives (VFDs) and related parameters. Knowledge of motor protection and electrical safety devices and how to verify their correct operation. Ability to work safely with both de-energized and live electrical power, with strong awareness of electrical safety practices. Comfort working in industrial environments that may be rusty, greasy, confined, or otherwise physically challenging. Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to address small and large groups at customer sites. Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce detailed, accurate daily service reports. Proven ability to learn quickly, adapt to new equipment and systems, and operate at a high level with minimal supervision. Willingness and ability to travel up to 100% of the time. Residence within approximately one hour of an international airport to support frequent travel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working around wastewater systems, water channels, or similarly harsh industrial environments. Experience in field service for specialized or niche industrial machinery. Demonstrated ability to work effectively on active construction sites alongside multiple contractors. Strong attention to detail and observational skills, with a focus on identifying issues before they become critical. Comfort with fast-paced work and shifting priorities in response to customer needs. Interest in contributing to a growing service organization and helping shape processes and standards as the team expands. Motivation to build a long-term career in a stable, resilient industry with strong demand and significant growth potential. Work Environment This role is field-based with approximately 100% travel to customer sites, so you will frequently fly from an international airport near your home. The work takes place in industrial facilities where machinery may be rusty, greasy, and located in tight or awkward spaces, including ladders, confined areas, water channels, and wastewater environments. You will often work on active or under-construction sites alongside other contractors and trades. The service department is in a strong growth phase, with sales significantly outpacing current service capacity, creating opportunities to join early and help build a stable, well-structured team rather than constantly reacting to emergencies. The industry is solid and resilient, with strong sales and a niche market position supported by specialized European machinery and substantial growth potential. You can expect to use a variety of hand and power tools, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment in environments that require practical work attire suitable for industrial and occasionally dirty conditions.
