Job Description
Position Summary Koehler Instrument Company is looking for a Gulf Coast Field Service Technician to provide installation, repair, calibration and technical support for petroleum and laboratory testing instruments. This position will be based in the Houston area and will support customers throughout Texas, Louisiana and the surrounding Gulf Coast region. The technician will work directly with refineries, independent testing laboratories, petrochemical companies and other industrial customers. Key Responsibilities Install and commission new laboratory instruments at customer sites Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical and software-related issues Perform preventive maintenance, calibration and instrument verification Provide on-site and remote technical support Train customers on proper instrument operation and routine maintenance Document all service visits, repairs, parts used and follow-up actions in the company CRM Prepare clear service reports and communicate open issues to the Service team Coordinate with Koehler's Engineering, Production and Technical teams when additional support is required Maintain service tools, test equipment and commonly required spare parts Build strong relationships with Gulf Coast customers and help identify additional service needs Support instrument demonstrations and customer visits when required Qualifications Associate degree or technical certification in electronics, instrumentation, electromechanical technology or a related field At least 3 years of experience servicing laboratory, analytical, petroleum-testing or industrial instrumentation Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics and technical manuals Experience using multimeters, temperature standards and other diagnostic equipment Comfortable working independently at customer locations Strong communication and customer-service skills Ability to prepare accurate and professional service reports Valid driver's license and a clean driving record Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds Willingness to travel regularly throughout the Gulf Coast region Preferred Experience Experience with petroleum-testing instruments and ASTM test methods Experience supporting refineries, petrochemical plants or independent testing laboratories Familiarity with flash point, viscosity, distillation, vapor pressure, cloud and pour point, tribology or fuel-testing equipment Experience with PLCs, temperature controllers, sensors and laboratory software Calibration or field-service experience with analytical-instrument manufacturers Location and Travel Based in the Greater Houston area Regular travel throughout Texas, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast Occasional travel to Koehler's facilities in New York for training and technical support Some overnight travel will be required Reporting This position will report to the Service Manager and work closely with the Gulf Coast sales team, Technical Applications, Engineering and Production.
