Position Overview Mass Excavation is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair our heavy civil construction fleet. This position supports projects throughout Alaska and may require travel to remote job sites and North Slope operations. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic skills, experience with modern heavy equipment systems, and the ability to work safely in both shop and field environments. Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment and trucks
- Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, steering, and braking systems
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and service
- Operate and test equipment to verify repairs
- Complete work orders and maintenance documentation
- Order parts and coordinate repairs with the shop and operations team
- Perform field service work at remote job sites when needed
- Conduct welding and fabrication repairs as necessary
- Maintain safe work practices and comply with company safety policies and OSHA requirements
- Identify potential mechanical issues and recommend preventative solutions to minimize equipment downtime Equipment

- Other heavy civil construction equipment Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' experience repairing heavy construction equipment
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Class B CDL preferred (or ability to obtain)
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electronic issues
- Willingness to travel to job sites across Alaska
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Technical Experience
- HCSS Equipment360 (E-360) fleet maintenance software
- CAT (Caterpillar) equipment and CAT ET diagnostic software
- Volvo construction equipment diagnostic systems
- Hitachi equipment diagnostic software
- Komatsu equipment service tools
- Other OEM heavy equipment diagnostic platforms Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Work performed in shop and field environments
- Exposure to weather conditions typical in Alaska
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, and working around heavy equipment
