Job Description
Debris Truck Upfitter Overview SHR Talent is partnering with a client in Mobile, AL in its search for a Debris Truck Upfitter . This hands-on position is responsible for the installation, fabrication, modification, and maintenance of debris collection truck bodies, hydraulic systems, tarping systems, lighting, and related equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with heavy-duty trucks, welding, fabrication, mechanical assembly, and hydraulic components. This role plays a critical part in ensuring debris collection vehicles are built to specification, operate safely, and meet quality standards for municipal, commercial, and disaster recovery operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically inclined professional who enjoys working with trucks, equipment upgrades, fabrication projects, and custom vehicle outfitting. Responsibilities Install and upfit debris truck bodies, dump bodies, grapple loaders, roll-off systems, and related equipment Perform welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, and fabrication work to customize trucks and equipment Install and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, and controls Mount and wire electrical components, lighting systems, safety equipment, and accessories Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, schematics, and installation instructions Perform mechanical assembly and modifications on heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and customer specifications Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and structural issues identified during the upfitting process Operate shop equipment, power tools, forklifts, and fabrication machinery safely and efficiently Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project completion status Collaborate with technicians, fabricators, mechanics, and production personnel to meet project deadlines Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry best practices Assist with preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet equipment as needed Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical school or vocational training preferred 2+ years of experience in truck upfitting, heavy equipment assembly, fabrication, welding, or related mechanical work Experience working on debris trucks, dump trucks, utility vehicles, commercial trucks, or heavy equipment preferred Proficiency in MIG welding, metal fabrication, and mechanical assembly Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and vehicle components Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings Experience using hand tools, power tools, fabrication equipment, and diagnostic tools Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work in a shop environment Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus Knowledge of DOT regulations, commercial vehicle standards, and workplace safety practices preferred This Debris Truck Upfitter opportunity offers the chance to join a growing organization supporting the construction, environmental services, waste management, and disaster recovery industries while building and maintaining specialized equipment that keeps essential operations running safely and efficiently. #IND123
