Job Description
Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy construction and industrial equipment to ensure optimal operational performance. The ideal candidate will possess extensive mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with heavy machinery, and a commitment to safety and quality standards. Duties Perform comprehensive diagnostics on heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, bulldozers, and loaders using electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical troubleshooting techniques. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on construction machinery, farm equipment, and industrial systems to prevent breakdowns and extend service life. Repair and replace components including transmissions, diesel engines, brakes, suspensions, hydraulics, air brakes, HVAC systems, and electrical systems. Fabricate parts or modify existing components using welding, hand tools, power tools, and schematics to meet specific operational requirements. Test repaired equipment to ensure proper functioning; perform alignments and calibrations as needed. Assist with equipment assembly, installation, and commissioning for new machinery or after major repairs. Maintain detailed service records; document repairs performed and parts used for accountability and future reference. Support heavy lifting operations safely while handling tires, batteries, or large components requiring specialized handling techniques. Provide exceptional customer service by communicating repair status clearly and ensuring client satisfaction. Follow safety protocols diligently during all maintenance activities to uphold workplace safety standards. Requirements Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or Service Technician with dealership experience preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of construction machinery maintenance, fabrication, welding, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in using schematics for electrical diagnostics and understanding OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. Hands-on experience with diesel engine diagnostics and repair; familiarity with transmissions, hydraulics, air brake systems, and HVAC is essential. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic software specific to heavy machinery. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely; valid certifications in forklift operation or crane operation are advantageous. Knowledge of construction equipment servicing including excavators, cranes, tractors-trailers, forklifts, and farm machinery. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues efficiently. Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and clients. Relevant certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) or equivalent are highly desirable.
