Heavy Mobile Equipement Mechanic Supervisor (General Foremen) Fire & Emergency Medical Svs Washington, DC Job Details Full-time $74,407.00•$101,961.60 a year 9 hours ago Qualifications Driver's License Full Job Description This position is located in the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DCFEMS) Apparatus Division. The mission of the DCFEMS is to preserve life and promote health and safety through excellent pre-hospital treatment and transportation, fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue activities and homeland security awareness. The Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Supervisor General Foreman serves as a senior technical authority responsible for the inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of fire and emergency response apparatus and related heavy-duty mobile equipment. Duties And Responsibilities Serves as the primary technical expert for heavy mobile firefighting equipment and emergency response apparatus, providing advanced diagnostic, repair, and testing expertise for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems. Receives and evaluates all incoming repair requests related to apparatus repair and maintenance. Determines, based on technical complexity and operational requirements, whether repair work should be performed in the field or completed in the shop. Participates with management officials by providing technical input in establishing long-range goals for repair, replacement, and modernization of departmental equipment. When requested, when requested, provides technical expertise and lectures on subjects related to heavy•duty to mobile firefighting equipment maintenance and assists officials in writing apparatus specifications. Recommends which departmental vehicles are to be disposed of based on technical condition, lifecycle analysis, and cost-effectiveness of repair, and identifies components suitable for retention or reuse. Ensures that all departmental vehicles pass District of Columbia emission and safety inspections. Assists management officials by providing technical data in support of the division's budget preparation. Reviews and maintains vehicle maintenance reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards. Serves as the departmental technical liaison for agency motor vehicle fleet maintenance programs.

Working Conditions/Environment Approximately 60 percent of work time is spent indoors, where there is exposure to smoke, debris, grease, oil, noise vibrations, and disease. The rest of the time is spent outdoors and under fire ground conditions. The incumbent is required to use safety equipment, protective clothing, etc., at various times, and must supply tools, other than special tools, related to this job. Primarily works inside and may work outside in all types of weather due to fire ground equipment involved.
