Job Description
Waste Connections is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Technician to keep our waste and recycling fleet safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community. In this role, you'll diagnose and repair heavy trucks and equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot engine, hydraulic, electrical, and brake systems. You'll work hands-on in a safety-first, team-oriented environment with stable hours, strong benefits, and opportunities for training, promotion, and long-term career growth in essential environmental services. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy trucks, hydraulics, and related equipment Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections on fleet vehicles Troubleshoot engine, electrical, brake, and hydraulic systems Document all repairs, parts usage, and maintenance activities accurately Follow all safety, environmental, and company maintenance procedures Collaborate with operations to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and OEM specifications for repairs Respond to breakdowns and perform field repairs as needed Required Skills Diesel engine diagnostics and repair Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair Heavy truck and equipment preventative maintenance Brake and suspension systems repair Electrical system diagnostics and wiring Use of diagnostic software and scan tools Reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics Welding and basic fabrication DOT and safety inspection procedures Recordkeeping and maintenance documentation
