About the role The Maintenance of Traffic Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of traffic control devices and all related MOT equipment. This position helps maintain a smooth transition from the shop to the field to ensure adequate equipment is built for projects. Ensure all vehicles, trailers, and towable equipment is in good working order for daily use. What you'll do Fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain roadway, construction, and informational signs in accordance with applicable standards and specifications. Measure, cut, drill, and mount sign panels, posts, brackets, and related hardware. Repair, maintain, and service trailers used for traffic control operations, including lighting systems, wiring, brakes, tires, hitches, and structural components. Inspect trailers and equipment to ensure safe operation and compliance with safety requirements. Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment, tools, and vehicles. Organize and maintain shop inventory, materials, tools, and equipment to ensure efficient operations. Receive, stock, and track parts, supplies, and traffic control materials. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment in accordance with company safety policies. Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting traffic control devices, signs, and equipment to job sites. Support fleet and equipment maintenance activities as assigned. Coordinate with supervisors and team members to ensure equipment readiness for daily operations. Ability to work on small equipment Trailers Able to determine equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; and general maintenance of trailers. Corrects equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components. Verifies equipment performance by conducting tests; adjusting controls and systems. Maintains equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting. Maintain equipment records by annotating services and repairs. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. evaluating service and parts options. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. Trailer mechanical repair experience a plus Electrical and welding experience a plus 2-4 years of preventative maintenance of trailers a plus Battery charging and testing experience a plus Perform all other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Sign fabrication and installation techniques. Basic welding, metal fabrication, and mechanical repair skills. Trailer maintenance and repair experience. Inventory management and shop organization. Ability to safely operate forklifts, trailers, and shop equipment. Strong attention to detail and housekeeping practices. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or equipment maintenance. Valid driver's license. Ability to lift heavy equipment and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to work at heights and perform emergency call-out duties when required. Working Conditions Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
