What You'll Do:
Service Equipment Expertise:
Remove, install, and repair tank car valves and fittings according to precise procedures. Perform service equipment repairs and gasket/seal changes.
Testing and Inspection:
Conduct thorough pressure/leak testing of tank cars. Perform inbound and outbound inspections to identify damage, defects, or safety hazards, meticulously documenting your findings.
Mechanical Repairs:
Execute various mechanical repairs on railcars to ensure their integrity and functionality.
Stenciling:
Accurately apply stenciling to railcars as required.
Documentation:
Complete all necessary service equipment applications, inspection reports, and test documentation with accuracy.
Equipment Maintenance:
Properly maintain and operate all equipment used in repair activities, promptly reporting any malfunctions or damage.
Safety First:
Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, consistently utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.
Team Collaboration:
Assist in the valve shop, perform touch-up painting, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Other Duties:
Be prepared to take on other tasks as assigned by your supervisor. •
Who We're Looking For:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent OR one year of experience in tank car repair activities.
Preferred:
NDT LT (BLT) Certification NDT VT Certification NDT PT Certification Experience in railcar repair activities (highly preferred) Experience in mechanical maintenance Understanding of general mechanical concepts Telehandler operation experience Good communication skills Strong attention to detail Excellent organizational skills Reliable transportation
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
This role requires the ability to work primarily outdoors in various weather conditions. You must be able to regularly lift 50+ pounds. The position involves walking, bending, stooping, or kneeling for extended periods. You'll need the ability to operate in a physical environment, including climbing ladders and moving heavy objects. Safe operation of hand and powered tools is essential. We value teamwork and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
