  • Commercial Construction to support the maintenance, repair, and overall readiness of our fleet vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment.
Reporting directly to the Fleet Manager, this position is ideal for someone pursuing a career in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment technology, automotive repair, or fleet maintenance within the construction industry. This hands-on role is heavily focused on preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, equipment diagnostics, and shop operations. The Mechanic
  • Commercial Construction will gain real-world experience supporting the daily maintenance and operational needs of a construction fleet while developing practical skills in vehicle and equipment repair.
Responsibilities Assist with maintenance and repair of company trucks, trailers, forklifts, and construction equipment Perform preventative maintenance services including: Oil and filter changes Fluid checks and replacements Greasing and lubrication of equipment Tire inspections, rotations, and replacements Battery testing, charging, and replacement Brake, belt, and hose inspections Assist with mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostics under supervision Help inspect vehicles and equipment for operational and safety concerns Support repair work involving diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components Assist with welding, fabrication, or minor repair work as needed Maintain shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and work areas in clean and safe working condition Stage parts, tools, and materials for scheduled repairs and maintenance tasks Assist with documenting maintenance activities, inspections, and repair records Clean, fuel, wash, and prepare vehicles and equipment for field operations Support equipment deliveries, pickups, jump starts, tire service calls, and field maintenance needs as required Assist with inventory and organization of shop parts, consumables, and supplies Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and PPE requirements Support the Fleet Manager with special projects and additional maintenance-related duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma Strong interest in diesel mechanics, automotive repair, heavy equipment maintenance, or fleet operations Willingness to learn mechanical systems and work in a fast-paced shop environment Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail Basic communication and organizational skills Ability to perform physical work including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, bending, kneeling, and working in varying weather conditions Preferred Completed education in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or trade program Prior experience working on vehicles, equipment, trailers, or engines Basic understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, or preventative maintenance practices Familiarity with shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and mechanical repair procedures Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification What You'll Gain Hands-on experience working on construction fleet vehicles and heavy equipment Exposure to diesel engine repair, preventative maintenance programs, and mechanical diagnostics Real-world experience in construction fleet and equipment operations Opportunity to develop foundational mechanic and troubleshooting skills Direct mentorship from the Fleet Manager Insight into how fleet maintenance supports large-scale construction operations and field productivity Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders and stairs as needed Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures and conditions Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements, including grasping and reaching Work Environment This position works primarily in a construction shop and yard environment with regular exposure to heavy equipment, diesel vehicles, moving machinery, tools, grease, noise, dust, and varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions. Proper PPE and adherence to all safety procedures are required at all times.
