Shop Manager or Terminal Manager Position Summary The Trailer/Chassis Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining semi-trailers, intermodal chassis, and related equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. This role requires proficiency in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, brake, suspension, and structural repair systems while adhering to company safety standards and federal regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance inspections on trailers and chassis. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and air brake systems. Inspect, repair, and replace suspension components, wheel seals, bearings, hubs, and landing gear. Conduct welding and fabrication repairs on trailer frames, chassis structures, and body components. Repair and replace lights, wiring harnesses, ABS systems, and electrical components. Inspect tires, wheels, and brake systems for wear and compliance. Perform DOT and FMCSA-compliant inspections and repairs. Troubleshoot and repair doors, locks, and other trailer accessories. Complete maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders accurately. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Respond to road service calls or emergency repairs as needed. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company policies and safety regulations. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Technical training in diesel, trailer, or heavy equipment repair preferred. Previous experience as a trailer mechanic, chassis mechanic, diesel mechanic, or heavy equipment technician preferred. Knowledge of air brake systems, suspension systems, electrical diagnostics, and welding techniques. Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, schematics, and work orders. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required. Ability to operate shop equipment, hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding machinery. Skills and Competencies Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of DOT inspection standards and safety regulations. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication and documentation skills. Time management and organizational abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working under trailers and chassis. Ability to work in varying weather conditions and shop environments. Ability to use power tools and welding equipment safely. Preferred Certifications DOT Inspection Certification ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certification Welding Certification Brake Inspector Certification Compensation Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
