Mechanic A Capitol Heights, MD Apply Now Mechanic A Technician, performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Conducts tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
Installs equipment,engines,hoses,batteries,tires,wheels/brakes,HVAC,wiring,etc.,orprogramstomeetspecifications. Watches gauges, dials, or otherindicators to make sure equipment is working properly. Service, repairs, adjusts, and tests machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical principles.
Inspects equipment, structures, etc., of materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Analyzes information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

Adjustandrelinebrakes,alignwheels,tightenboltsandscrews,andreassembleequipment. Alignfrontendsandsuspensionsystems. Attachtestinstruments toequipmentandreaddialsandgauges inordertodiagnosemalfunctions. Disassembleandoverhaulinternalcombustionengines,pumps,generators,transmissions,clutches,and differential units. Examineandadjust protectiveguards,loosebolts,andspecifiedsafetydevices. Inspectbrakesystems,steeringmechanisms,wheelbearings,andotherimportantpartstoensurethattheyare in proper operating condition. Inspect,repair,andmaintainautomotiveandmechanicalequipmentandmachinerysuchaspumpsand compressors. Inspect,test,andlistentodefectiveequipmenttodiagnosemalfunctions,usingtestinstrumentssuchas handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges. Operatevalve-grindingmachinestogrindandreset valves. Performroutinemaintenancesuchaschangingoil,checkingbatteries,andlubricatingequipmentand machinery. Raisetrucks,buses,andheavypartsorequipmentusinghydraulicjacksorhoists. Reconditionandreplaceparts,pistons,bearings,gears,and valves. Repairandadjustseats,doors,andwindows,andinstallandrepairaccessories. Rewireignitionsystems,lights,andinstrumentpanels. Inspectandverifydimensionsandclearancesofpartstoensureconformancetofactory specifications. Specializeinrepairingandmaintainingpartsofthe engine,suchasfuelinjectionsystems. Test drivetrucksandbusestodiagnosemalfunctionsortoensurethattheyareworkingproperly. Usehandtoolssuchasscrewdrivers,pliers,wrenches,pressuregauges,andprecisioninstruments,aswellas power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists. Otherdutiestoensurethe safeoperationandefficiencyofthe department. REQUIREMENTS
Mechanic A:
5+ years' experience. Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair the most difficult of all vehicle and equipment service. Must be able to teach Mechanic B and C as time permits, more complex repair techniques. Must demonstrate superior mechanical skills and mentoring capabilities. Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot andrepairthemost difficultofall vehiclesandequipment inservice. Must beable toteachMechanicBandCs,astimepermits,morecomplexrepairtechniques. Mustdemonstrate superior customer service skills and mentoring capabilities as well as perform other duties to ensure the safe operation and efficiency of the department. PHYSICALDEMANDS
