The State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 7 is recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician II position in Frederick County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below.Nature of Work:
This position is the journey level of repair and maintenance work on motor vehicles and/or construction/maintenance equipment. This position is responsible for performing routine repair work, standard preventive maintenance services and assisting with major automotive repairs. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.Experience:
Three years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. One year of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.Notes:
1.Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 2.Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience. The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs. 3.U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience. 4.Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience Minimum Qualifications.) 5. Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education. Licenses & Certifications 1. . Candidate must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the state of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated. Additional Information- This position is considered an essential employee and is subject to all 24 hours a day, 7 days/week for inclement weather and/or other emergency events. Must be reachable and respond to calls after work hours.
- This position may also be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. In the event of hazardous weather or highway conditions, employees will be called to duty during off-hours in order to maintain and repair equipment.
- This position performs maintenance work requiring physical exertion that is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside a building that may be exposed to extreme heat, fumes, exhaust and hazardous materials.
- On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds.
