Job Description
Job Summary Join our dynamic team as an Assistant Shop Mechanic/Yard Helper, where you'll play a vital role in supporting our shop operations and yard activities. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work with a variety of heavy equipment, and automotive systems, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. You'll assist skilled mechanic with repairs, maintenance, and fabrication tasks while helping manage the yard's organization and safety. Duties Support lead mechanic with diagnosing and assisting repairs on heavy equipment, including excavators, skidsteers, dozers, scapers, compactors, dumptrucks, trailers, forklifts, and other construction items. Assist with mechanical repairs such as transmission work, brake repairs, hydraulic system troubleshooting, suspension adjustments, and engine diagnostics. Operate heavy machinery like dirt equipment, forklifts and other industrial equipment safely within the yard. Help with fabrication tasks including welding, soldering, assembly, and using power tools to modify or repair equipment. Maintain the yard by organizing tools, supplies, and equipment; perform routine safety inspections; and assist in loading/unloading vehicles such as tractor-trailers as well as yard maintenance. Support vehicle maintenance activities. Follow safety protocols diligently while performing heavy lifting and handling hazardous materials or components. Experience Previous dealership or heavy equipment service experience highly preferred. Hands-on knowledge of farm machinery, industrial equipment, or automotive repair is essential. Familiarity with electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, and power tools enhances your effectiveness. Experience in operating heavy equipment is a plus. Strong mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to read schematics and OEM manuals. Customer service skills are beneficial for assisting team members effectively. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
