HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT
MECHANIC, WG-5803-10, you will maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, modify, and inspect heavy mobile equipment, various support equipment, and special purpose vehicles such as; fuel dispensing trucks, refueling equipment, crash/structural firefighting equipment and pump trucks, forklifts, meriel handling, aircraft cargo loaders, aircraft and equipment tow tractors, large runway snow removal vehicles, aircraft de-icing equipment, sweepers, bulldozers, mobile cranes, road graders, heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, backhoes, front end loaders, excavors, trenchers, and tactical/armored protected vehicles. The equipment may be commercial or military designed with diesel, gasoline, electric, hybrid electric, or other alternive fuel power and may have multiple engines. The work requires knowledge of how heavy duty machinery, engines, parts, and systems work; ability to detect faulty items, determine causes of malfunction, and determine best repair methods; and skill to assemble, disassemble, repair, rebuild or modify components and a variety of interconnected systems. Repairs include; integred electrical, electronics, air, fuel, and hydraulic systems; complex ste-of-the-art electrical and electronic systems requiring specialized scan/diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions or to determine replacement of standard and computer controlled components. 1. Repairs, adjust, overhauls, performs major repairs, and maintenance on military and commercial designed heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles. Inspects repairs, overhauls and tests major systems including gasoline, diesel, electric powered hybrid, multi-fuel, turbine, and other types of internal combustion engines, which may be turbo-charged or blower assisted, automic or manual transmissions, including those with power take offs, cross-drive transmissions, hydraulic, electric, pneumic systems and controls, fluid pumping systems, turrets, winches and four wheel steering systems. Systemically analyzes malfunctions and the cause of mechanical failure by means of visual and auditory checks, uses computer-controlled test equipment, engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters and pressure gauges in order to determine the exact nure of extent of repairs or adjustments necessary to complete work. Use specialized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems in complex ste-of-the-art electric and electronic systems to identify and replace defective components such as computer control modules, sensors, solenoids, digitized components, and circuits. Develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines. Modify parts to fit, or improvises modificions to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions. Makes design modificions to meet special requirements, make adjustment or performs tests. Removes, disassembles overhauls, modifies, adjusts, and repairs, engines, transmissions, or sub-assemblies in accordance with the proper procedures and specificions. 2. Performs body repair and corrosion control, refinishes and repaints surfaces as required. Repairs and/or replaces body parts, locks, glass, etc. and determines if additional repairs are required. Repairs may be accomplished by using welding equipment, power tools, hand tools and other specialized equipment. Cleans, tests, and repairs radiors/oil coolers and associed parts. Test, services, and repairs vehicle air conditioning systems following manufacturers and environmental guidelines. Replaces or repairs tires, tubes and balances wheel assemblies. 3. Prepares, maintains and submits applicable maintenance work orders for man-hour and da collection accounting, to include completing forms to reflect work performed or delayed and parts and maintenance required. Assists in establishing and maintaining adeque shop stock, special levels parts, and approprie shop support equipment and tools. Inspect, maintains, and operes all approprie shop equipment. Researches and assists in requisitioning merials, parts and equipment necessary to perform the vehicle maintenance/management mission. 4. Participes as OJT Instructor in the vehicle maintenance area. Conducts instructional classes on methods and procedures of operion and maintenance concerning all aspects of vehicle repairs and assigned shop maintenance support equipment. Evalues effectiveness of instruction, documents and maintains individual /section training and qualificion records. 5. Assists in conducting the local occupional safety and health training program, to include compliance with directives and procedures for proper disposal of hazardous waste products within the functional area. Fully comprehends and complies with federal, ste and local environmental laws and the requirements in Air Force Occupional, Safety and Health Standard (AFOSHSTD). 6. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Help Conditions of employment This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position come tenure 3. The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee, but considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force. You can be termined any time with a 30-day notice. If a permanent resource becomes available, incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition.

: Must have 18 months experience or training leading to a thorough knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operion, and working relionships of complex systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of comb, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify a variety of comb, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Knowledge of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumic, and other non-mechanical systems th have a functional relionship and effect on the operion of mechanical systems. Knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumic, electrical, and electronic controls. Basic knowledge of electronics, sufficient to identify and replace defective components, such as sensors, diodes, and circuit boards. Ability to repair or overhaul major components such as diesel, multi-fuel or gasoline engines, turbine engines, automic and manual transmissions, drive line assemblies, electrical and electronic systems and accessories, fuel injection systems, and emission control systems.
