Job Description

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanic to join our team at our on-site mechanic shop in Gulfport, MS. This role is crucial to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our fleet of tractor trailers, dump trucks, pickup trucks, paving machinery and heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment, contributing to our operational success by minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment performance.

Requirements and Skills:
Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a Mechanic working with heavy equipment and vehicles. Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and transmissions. Excellent knowledge of machinery and mechanical systems, including hydraulic, electrical, and other components. Aptitude in using various hand tools and precision measurement tools. Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to safety standards. Ability to follow established procedures, practices, and read instructions. Physical ability to work in a shop environment, including lifting, standing, bending, and other strenuous activities. Very good physical strength and stamina.
Essential Functions and Duties:
Work Responsibilities:
Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, dump trucks, tractor trailers, paving equipment, and pickup trucks. Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake adjustments, and fluid checks. Inspect machines, engines, transmissions, and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues. Troubleshoot and resolve reported problems in a timely manner. Conduct repairs and perform thorough maintenance on machinery, aiming for maximum reliability. Operate tools and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair machinery issues. Clean and lubricate machinery components and replenish fluids. Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users. Order replacement parts and maintain parts inventory in coordination with the Shop Foreman. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed. Collaborate with the team to ensure equipment is ready for field use when required. Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g., repair hydraulic systems, paint vehicles).
Safety Responsibilities:
Follow company and OSHA safety standards, ensuring a safe work environment. Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. Report any safety concerns to the Shop Foreman or Safety Manager. Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and follow established procedures.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED required; technical training or certifications preferred. Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain inventory records. Dependable, punctual, and possess a positive attitude toward teamwork. Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work in an on-site mechanic shop environment. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed.
