Heavy Equipment Mechanic Who We're Hiring For:
Our client is a specialized heavy civil contractor performing complex excavation, bridge, dam rehabilitation, marine, and heavy concrete work throughout Maine and New Hampshire. They are a small, highly capable team that takes on technically challenging infrastructure projects. Job description - What You'll Do Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy civil equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, compactors, haul trucks). Perform preventive maintenance, services, and DOT/annual inspections where applicable. Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, cooling, fuel, and drivetrain systems. Rebuild/replace components (pumps, cylinders, undercarriage, pins/bushings) and perform alignments/track adjustments. Conduct field service at job sites using a service truck; complete shop repairs as needed. Perform light fabrication/welding for brackets, guards, and wear items. Use diagnostic software and manuals to pinpoint faults; verify repairs with test procedures. Keep accurate maintenance logs, parts usage, and work orders in the CMMS. Maintain a clean, safe workspace; manage fluids, filters, and waste per environmental rules. Communicate clearly with foremen and operators about timelines, parts, and equipment status. Must-Have Qualifications 3+ years as a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic (or tech school + 1-2 years hands-on). Strong diagnostic skills in hydraulics, diesel, and 24V electrical systems. Ability to read schematics, parts diagrams, and service manuals. Own a basic professional tool set; able to lift 50-75 lbs and work outdoors in all weather. Valid driver's license and clean MVR; eligible to work in the U.S. Safety-first mindset; comfortable with lockout/tagout and PPE. Nice-to-Have (Preferred) CDL Class A or B (or willingness to obtain); DOT medical card. OEM/industry certifications (e.g., Cat/Deere/Komatsu/Volvo), ASE Medium/Heavy Truck, welding certs. Experience with telematics, ECM programming, and hydraulic hose fabrication. Mobile crane/rigging basics. Basic computer skills (work orders, parts lookup, emails). Tools & Equipment Company provides service truck, major/specialty tools, and diagnostic software. Mechanic supplies personal hand tools and toolbox (tool allowance available if offered). Work Environment & Physical Demands Frequent climbing on/off equipment, kneeling, bending, and working at heights or in confined spaces. Exposure to dust, grease, noise; strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE. Pay:
$80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
