Position Summary The Mechanic Helper is responsible for supporting mechanic technicians and shop leadership in maintaining, inspecting, and repairing company vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment. This role assists with routine fluid changes, component inspections, preventative maintenance, tool tracking, and general shop organization. Additionally, this position utilizes bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills to coordinate service needs with drivers, shop technicians, and supervisors. Overall, this role ensures operational readiness of company assets, maintains a safe shop environment, and supports fleet reliability across departments. Essential Job Responsibilities Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Assistance- Assist mechanics with routine preventative maintenance on company trucks, service vehicles, and field equipment (e.g., oil and fluid changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, brake checks).
- Perform visual inspections of vehicles and equipment for operational safety, leaks, or wear, reporting findings directly to the lead mechanic.
- Assist in basic mechanical repairs, component replacements, and troubleshooting as directed.
- Support fleet safety prep by verifying that emergency equipment, fluids, and standard truck accessories are present and functional. Shop Operations & Maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazardous-free work area in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Properly handle, store, and dispose of used fluids, oil filters, scrap metal, and shop chemicals in accordance with facility policies.
- Clean and inspect mechanical tools, power equipment, and machinery after use. Inventory & Tool Management
- Assist in organizing shop tools, parts inventory, and diagnostic equipment, ensuring items are returned to designated storage.
- Help load, unload, and organize service trucks and parts shipments as delivered.
- Report missing, damaged, or broken tools and low supply inventory to the Lead Mechanic. General Operational Support
- Perform basic utility driving tasks, including moving vehicles/equipment around the shop yard or taking units for inspection.
- Perform routine clerical or physical shop logs, work orders, and maintenance checklist documentation. Bilingual Coordination & Support
- Provide English/Spanish translation and communication support between English and Spanish speaking crew members, drivers, and shop staff regarding vehicle issues or service request, as needed.
- Ensure safety warnings, maintenance logs, and directive instructions are clearly understood by all crew members. Other Duties as Assigned
