• Job Description
• The Heavy Equipment Mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and maintains a wide range of heavy equipment and diesel-powered machinery, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role combines advanced mechanical troubleshooting, accurate quoting, and the use of diagnostic software and databases to deliver high-quality service in both shop and field environments.
• Responsibilities
• + Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and powertrain issues on heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, and other diesel-powered machinery.

+ Remove and install parts, disassemble and reassemble components, and perform critical machine and engine repairs and adjustments while self-monitoring work quality. + Apply specific failure analysis techniques and procedures to determine proper diagnosis and repair plans. + Test and verify correct operation of all repairs and adjustments to ensure equipment meets performance and safety standards. + Provide accurate repair quotes and pricing estimates to customers based on thorough inspection and diagnosis. + Complete all required paperwork and accurately update databases and systems, including work orders, parts orders, and related software platforms such as

DBS, SIMS, SIS

Web, STW, and similar tools. + Follow contamination control procedures and comply with all HAZMAT rules and regulations during maintenance and repair activities. + Use laptops, diagnostic software, basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring instruments, cranes, and rigging equipment safely and effectively. + Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and write routine reports and correspondence as needed. + Adhere to all company policies and established safety and quality standards at all times. + Complete all Level I, II, and III assigned training in a timely and proficient manner to maintain and enhance technical capabilities. + Mentor and support other machine team members by sharing technical knowledge, best practices, and safe work methods. + Operate a field vehicle when assigned, in compliance with driving and safety requirements. + Obtain and maintain required certifications, including MSHA (as needed), forklift and man lift operation (as needed), air-conditioning certification, and any other role-related credentials. + Participate in required assessments, including Work Steps assessment, and comply with any applicable DOT physical requirements. + Work flexible schedules, including shift work, required overtime, and on-call assignments, particularly for field service roles. + Support fleet service operations by performing diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a variety of customer and company equipment.

• Essential Skills
• + Proven experience in mechanical repair of heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, and other construction machinery.

+ 1-5 years of experience as a diesel or automotive technician/mechanic, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Demonstrated knowledge of diesel and gas engines, including diagnosis and repair. + Strong understanding of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems and components. + Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. + Ability to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and accurately. + Proficiency with basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments. + Experience using laptops and diagnostic software to troubleshoot and repair equipment. + Ability to safely use cranes and rigging equipment in repair and maintenance operations. + Capability to provide accurate repair quotes and pricing estimates to customers. + Knowledge of database software, internet software, manufacturing software, and order processing systems. + Valid driver's license. + Minimum age of 21 to be assigned and operate a field vehicle. + High school diploma or GED equivalent. + Ability to successfully complete a Work Steps assessment. + Flexibility to work various schedules, including shift work, required overtime, and on-call assignments. + Certification in air-conditioning systems. + Ability to follow contamination control procedures and comply with HAZMAT rules and regulations.

• Additional Skills & Qualifications
• + Associate's degree or certificate in diesel technology or a similar mechanical discipline (preferred but not required).

+ Familiarity with heavy equipment brands and components used in the construction and oil and gas industries. + General knowledge of fleet service operations and best practices for maintaining mixed equipment fleets. + MSHA certification or the ability to obtain it, if required by specific job sites. + Certification to operate a forklift and/or man lift, or the ability to become certified prior to operating this equipment. + Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues. + Ability to mentor and support less experienced technicians and team members. + Comfort working with digital systems for work orders, parts ordering, and service documentation.

Field technicians may be on call for late or emergency service needs and must be comfortable working in varying outdoor and industrial conditions. The work environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety practices, including contamination control and HAZMAT regulations, and requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with all company safety policies.
