Title:
APS-3: Heavy Equipment Mechanic Belong, Connect, Grow, with KBR! Program Summary KBR maintains and manages Army prepositioned stocks at the Army Field Support Battalion- Charleston (AFSBn-CHS) land site to include all logistics and maintenance operations.
KBR APS-3
Program is managed and executed at Goose Creek in support of the Army's power projection doctrine and resources. The contract provides maintenance of APS-3 stocks (ClassII, IIIP, IV, VII, IX
) to ensure that unit sets are configured and maintained at optimal readiness. KBR also provides maintenance services and logistical support for other Army programs, IAW individual scope of work contract requirements. Job Summary Under general direction and with little guidance , repairs and assesses malfunctions, rebuilds, and performs maintenance on heavy equipment common to construction and military operations, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, tanks, personnel carriers, large diesel trucks , compressors and pneumatic tools. Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantle/reassemble equipment, examine parts for damage or excessive wear, etc. Replaces defective engines and subassemblies. Tests repaired/overhauled equipment to insure safe operating efficiency. May be responsible to weld broken parts, structures and other machinery/attachments. Requires High School graduation or equivalent and 2 years of experience as heavy equipment mechanic. Trade school training may be preferred. Specific contract qualifications will prevail, if different. Roles and Responsibilities Analyze malfunctions and repairs. Rebuild, and maintain power equipment such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantle, and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges. Replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency. Weld broken parts and structural members. At times direct workers engaged in cleaning parts. Assist with the assembly and disassembly of equipment. Repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. Perform field-level automotive maintenance on all equipment assigned or work-loaded to the assigned shop- primarily material handling equipment including military and commercial forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, tractors, earth movers, and mine sweepers.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand- between 2 to 3 hours per day. Must be able to walk
- between 4 to 5 hours per day. Must be able to Lift
