Proven mechanical aptitude with experience in small engine repair, automotive/light truck maintenance, and general equipment troubleshooting (tree service, landscaping, construction, or similar preferred). Proficient with computers and able to use our maintenance tracking software. Ability to diagnose issues efficiently and complete repairs with minimal supervision. Familiarity with sourcing parts and managing vendor costs. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and inventory. Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in varying weather, and handle dirty/greasy tasks. Safety-focused mindset; experience with chainsaws, trailers, and heavy equipment is highly valued.

Willing to work 2pm-12pm Mon-Thurs, or alternatively 2pm-10pm Mon-Friday Position Summary (afternoon/evening shift) Wilder Tree Company is seeking a reliable, mechanically inclined Yard Mechanic to take full ownership of equipment maintenance at our yard. This role is critical for keeping our fleet of trucks, trailers, chainsaws, chippers, and other tree service equipment running safely and efficiently. The primary focus is preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and in-house repairs to minimize downtime and reduce outsourced repair costs. A secondary responsibility includes supporting equipment and parts inventory. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who enjoys hands-on work, can work independently, and takes pride in keeping operations smooth for our field crews. This position directly supports business efficiency by extending equipment life, lowering repair expenses, and ensuring crews have reliable tools daily. Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary Duties - Equipment Maintenance (70-80% of time) Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all company equipment, including oil changes, filter changes, and regular equipment inspections. Diagnose and repair small engines (chainsaws, pressure washers, blowers, etc.), including disassembly, troubleshooting, and reassembly. Handle light electrical repairs, such as replacing sensors, wiring, and seven-pin trailer plugs. Install and repair accessories like mesh tarp systems and racking systems on trucks/trailers. Inspect, repair, or coordinate tire repairs (e.g., transporting tires to vendors). Source high-quality aftermarket parts at the best prices and maintain vendor relationships. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and service history using our maintenance tracking software. Oversee outsourced repairs (e.g., major truck transmission or engine work) by coordinating with shops, communicating issues clearly, and verifying quality upon return. Secondary Duties - Inventory & Stocking Support (20-30% of time) Assist with stocking and organizing equipment, parts, consumables (chains, bars, oil, gas, grease, carb/choke cleaner, etc.), and supplies. Track inventory levels, anticipate needs, and help prevent loss of stock that could delay field operations. Keep the yard and maintenance area clean, organized, and safe.
