SUMMARY Under general supervision, the Mechanic performs the diagnosis, repair, servicing, and preventive maintenance of Gulf Compress's powered industrial trucks, mobile equipment, light equipment, fleet vehicles, and fixed fire protection systems, and provides mid-level fabrication and welding support across Plants 1, 2, 4, and 5. This role is responsible for maintaining equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended preventive maintenance schedule. Ensure that all in-service equipment is in proper working order, safe, and reliable; shop areas are to be kept clean, organized, and safe, consistent with Gulf Compress policy and applicable regulatory standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(What you will do on a typical day 1. Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair Toyota 5,000 lb. Class IV/V powered industrial trucks (forklifts), including engine, drivetrain, hydraulic, electrical, brake, and mast/lift systems. (And other equipment) 2. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on PIT equipment, tractors, lawn and maintenance equipment, and other powered industrial and light equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and the Gulf Compress PM schedule. 3. Service, diagnose, and repair fleet vehicles, including routine maintenance (oil, filters, fluids, belts, brakes, tires) and basic mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic repairs. 4. Perform inspection, testing, and minor maintenance support on facility fire suppression and sprinkler system components (visual checks, gauge readings, valve position verification, minor adjustments) in coordination with the Safety, Compliance & Operations Systems Department and the licensed fire protection contractor, without performing work reserved for licensed fire protection contractors. 5. Perform mid-level fabrication and welding tasks (Plasma, MIG/stick/oxyacetylene as applicable) to fabricate, repair, or modify equipment guards, brackets, mounts, racks, and shop or facility components. 6. Perform routine and preventive maintenance and minor repairs on other facility equipment as assigned, including small engines, pumps, and material handling equipment. 7. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, parts usage, and PM completion documentation in the Gulf Compress maintenance tracking system as required and directed. 8. Identify parts, supplies, and outside service needs, and communicate procurement needs to the Safety, Compliance & Operations Systems Manager in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime. 9. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work area, including proper storage of tools, parts, fluids, and hazardous materials, and disposal of waste in accordance with environmental and safety requirements. 10. Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs at all facilities as needed to minimize disruption to operations. 11. Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, and other applicable safety procedures when performing maintenance, repair, and welding/fabrication work. 12. Communicate equipment status, recurring issues, and safety concerns to management, and recommend corrective or preventive actions. 13. Report to work on or before scheduled time. Includes the following, and other duties may be assigned: Service and Repair Areas This position is expected to demonstrate working proficiency across the following equipment and systems: Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT): Toyota 5,000 lb. forklifts (or other equipment) — engine/powertrain, hydraulics, mast and forks, brakes, tires, electrical systems, and PITspecific safety devices.
Tractors & Mobile Equipment:
Routine service, PM, and repair of yard tractors and other mobile equipment used in warehouse and yard operations.
Lawn & Grounds Equipment:
Small-engine service and repair, blade/cutting-deck maintenance, and general upkeep of mowers and grounds equipment.
Fleet Vehicles:
Preventive maintenance, brakes, fluids, electrical, and general mechanical repair.
Fire Suppression & Sprinkler Systems:
Routine visual inspection and monitoring support (gauges, valve tamper/position, obvious physical damage) and minor maintenance, performed within the mechanic's qualifications and in coordination with the designated licensed fire protection contractor; does not include hydrostatic testing, system design, or other ITM activities requiring
TDI/SFMO
licensure.
Fabrication & Welding:
Mid-level MIG, stick, and/or oxy-acetylene welding and metal fabrication to build, repair, or modify equipment components, guards, racks, and shop fixtures.
Shop & Facility Maintenance:
Tool and equipment organization, shop cleanliness, parts and fluid storage, waste handling, and general upkeep of the maintenance shop and work areas.
Must be familiar with OSHA requirements applicable to powered industrial truck maintenance and repair and must not release equipment found to be unsafe back into service.
Fire Protection Boundaries:
Must understand the boundary between routine facility maintenance/monitoring and licensed fire protection contractor work, and must not perform inspection, testing, or maintenance activities on fire protection systems that require state licensure.
Hot Work & Welding Safety:
Must obtain and maintain any hot work permits required by Gulf Compress policy prior to welding or cutting operations and follow fire watch procedures as applicable.
Driver's License:
Must possess a valid driver's license and be insured to operate Gulf Compress vehicles and equipment as needed for the role. Safety Responsibilities Maintain and promote a culture of safety within the organization, including compliance with Gulf Compress's zero-tolerance policy for conduct that does not meet established safety standards. Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, confined space (if applicable), and other applicable safety procedures before, during, and after maintenance and repair work. Identify and respond appropriately to health and safety hazards, and report unsafe conditions or equipment to management immediately. Tag out and remove from service any equipment found to be unsafe until repairs are completed and verified. Attend all required safety meetings and training sessions. Store, handle, and dispose of fuels, oils, solvents, and other hazardous materials in accordance with Gulf Compress procedure and applicable environmental regulations. PPE Requirements Operators must use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection in designated high-noise areas, and respiratory protection where indicated. Welding and fabrication tasks require appropriate welding PPE, including welding helmet/shade, flame-resistant clothing, welding gloves, and respiratory protection where indicated. Operators must follow Gulf Compress heat illness prevention procedures during warmweather operations, including scheduled hydration breaks and recognition of heat-stress symptoms.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to the Logistics Supervisor / Operations Manager for work assignment, priorities, and safety compliance. Coordinates with plant supervisors and PIT operators to schedule equipment maintenance with minimal disruption to production. Coordinates with the designated licensed fire protection contractor on inspection, testing, and maintenance activities that require state licensure.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a warehouse environment that is not climate-controlled, with exposure to seasonal heat, humidity, and cold consistent with the South Texas Gulf Coast climate. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and vibration from powered equipment, vehicles, and welding fabrication operations. Work may be performed outdoors when repairing equipment or vehicles in the year or across Plants 1, 2, 4, and 5.
