Job Purpose The Heavy Equipment Shop Technician is responsible for the repair of construction machines, component assemblies, and parts in the shop, including diagnosing, parts ordering, technical report writing, warranty reporting, maintaining care of company assets, and proper communication with others. ROMCO is currently seeking a talented and driven heavy equipment shop mechanic to join the team supporting the Midland, TX branch operations. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Repair equipment and components, including Development of a repair plan and sequence. Determining necessary parts, materials, tooling, etc. Performing repairs properly and safely, with proper quality assurance testing of repair component or system and machine. Maintain and complete all necessary reports legibly and in a timely fashion for parts ordering, special tooling usage, daily service reports, and work order closure. Communicate progress of repair with direct supervisor as required. Retrieve & return of parts and/or materials through Company's parts ordering system. Retrieve & return of special tools through Company's Tool Room. Maintain proper care and use of special tools including major shop equipment, such as but not limited to, air compressor, cleaning tanks, overhead and jib cranes, etc. Use Company vehicle, service truck, and fuel cards properly including notifying supervisor immediately of any issues with the vehicle. Maintain work area and/or service vehicle in a safe and clean manner. Maintain tools & tool carrier in a safe, productive, and updated manner. Adhere to all company policies and procedures. Other duties and projects as assigned. Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements Operation and maintenance requirements of heavy-duty construction equipment. Hazards and Safety precautions of trade. The care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work. The use of servicing equipment such as A/C recycler, hydraulic jack, or emission analyzer. Ability to diagnose defects in heavy equipment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity. Display excellent judgement at all times. Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree in Diesel or Equipment Technology, or related field preferred. 3+ years of Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience and/or equivalent hands-on education or training preferred with emphasis on: Brakes Check batteries Diagnostics Diesel Repair Electrical Electrical Diagnostics Engine Rebuilds Engines/Chassis Tear Down/Assembly Hydraulics Inspections Micrometer Measuring Oil/Lube Perform Total Rebuild Preventative Maintenance Repair Equipment Replace Equipment Replace Fuel Lines/Sparkplugs Suspension Troubleshoot/Diagnose Tune-ups Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be alert and is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds long distances (more than 20 feet). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The position requires the frequent use of hand and power tools. This position may require the use and operation of a vehicle and various heavy equipment. Working Conditions and Additional Requirements This job operates in a shop environment. Operational hours can be from 7:00am to 5:00pm with occasional needs outside standard business hours to accommodate meetings, training, and projects. Some travel may be required. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and mobile devices. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
