Position Summary:
Under general supervision, the mechanic helper performs mechanical work in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of county vehicles, heavy equipment, and motorized machinery. Essential duties and responsibilities include basic maintenance on light and heavy county vehicles (cars, trucks, mowers, loaders, dump trucks, etc.). Including changing oil and filters, checking/replenishing fluids, rotating tires, and replacing light bulbs or wiper blades. Assist Senior Mechanic with complex engines, transmission, hydraulic, electrical, and brake system repairs by retrieving tools, positioning equipment, and holding components in place.
Qualifications
Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
Miscellaneous Information
This position requires the ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of equipment and machinery, including but not limited to light and heavy pickup trucks, tandem trucks, power saws and air hammers. The role requires the physical capacity to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 25 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. The employee must be able to maintain body equilibrium while performing activities such as bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching, and stretching of the arms, legs, and other parts of the body.
