In this hands-on role, you will primarily be working at our facility in Irvine working on our HVAC, Humidification, and AC units. There will be occasional travel to client sites across the United States (primarily pharmaceutical, biotechnology, semiconductor, medical device, and healthcare facilities) to perform comprehensive cleanroom performance testing, certification, air balancing, and HVAC/controls troubleshooting. The ideal candidate brings deep HVAC expertise, strong understanding of building automation/controls systems, and proven experience certifying controlled environments to ensure compliance with
ISO 14644, EU GMP, USP
/ , FS209E, and other industry standards. Key Responsibilities Perform on-site cleanroom certification and performance testing, including: Airborne particle counting and classification
HEPA/ULPA
filter integrity testing (DOP/PAO challenge) Airflow volume/velocity measurements and visualization (smoke studies) Room pressurization differential testing Temperature, humidity, and environmental monitoring verification Air change rate calculations and verification Conduct test, adjust, and balance (TAB) services for cleanroom HVAC systems to achieve specified airflow, pressure cascades, and uniformity. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and recommend repairs/adjustments on HVAC systems, variable air volume (VAV) boxes, dampers, fans, controls (DDC/BMS), and associated equipment in cleanroom environments. Verify and calibrate building automation/controls sequences related to cleanroom HVAC (e.g., pressure control loops, reheat, supply/exhaust coordination). Prepare detailed certification reports, including data analysis, compliance summaries, deviations, and recommendations; ensure all documentation meets client, regulatory, and internal quality standards. Maintain, calibrate, and transport sensitive test instrumentation (particle counters, photometers, anemometers, micromanometers, etc.). Adhere strictly to gowning, safety, cGMP, and contamination control protocols at all client sites. Collaborate with clients, facility engineers, and internal teams to resolve issues, provide technical guidance, and support re-certification or remediation efforts. Travel to job sites (air travel, driving rental vehicles), manage travel logistics, and represent the company professionally.
Qualifications & Requirements Required:
3-7+ years of hands-on experience in cleanroom performance testing, certification, and/or TAB (test and air balancing) in controlled environments. Strong HVAC technical background with demonstrated experience servicing, troubleshooting, and balancing commercial/industrial HVAC systems (air handlers, ductwork, filtration). Experience with building automation/controls systems (DDC, BMS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, etc.) in cleanroom or critical environment applications. Certification or training in one or more of the following (preferred; required within first year if not already held): NEBB Certified Cleanroom Performance Testing (CPT) Technician or Professional CETA Registered Cleanroom Testing Technician (RCTT) or similar
NEBB / AABC TAB
Technician or equivalent Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively (up to 50% travel, including overnight stays). Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for report generation; familiarity with data logging/analysis software. Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights/ladders, and wear full cleanroom PPE/gowning for extended periods. Strong attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and commitment to safety and quality.
Preferred:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field. Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, semiconductor, or healthcare (USP 797/800) cleanrooms. Knowledge of additional standards (ISO 14644 series, EU Annex 1, IEST-RP-CC006).
