Job Title:
HVAC Technician Job Description In this role, you will be responsible for performing general, preventative, and emergency maintenance of facilities equipment, with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and process systems operations. This position involves contributing to day-to-day operations and may require undertaking tasks outside of your normal skill set, such as restroom repairs. Responsibilities Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on refrigeration units, air handling systems, chillers, and HVAC infrastructure. Monitor system performance using Building Management Systems (BMS). Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support HVAC needs in production and common space areas. Execute root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions for recurring issues. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and energy efficiency standards. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system performance, and parts inventory. Support commissioning of new systems and retrofits of existing infrastructure. Proficiently install, maintain, and repair air conditioning units, furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, chillers, air handlers, VAVs, and ductwork. Possess crane/rigging experience, motor replacement skills, and familiarity with pumps and fittings repair. Replace pipes and be knowledgeable about the components of Cooling Towers and RTUs. Understand mechanical emergency shutdown procedures and operate CMMS systems. Work with refrigerant, VFDs, PLCs, and automated control systems. Essential Skills 3+ years of hands-on experience with commercial/industrial refrigeration and air handling systems, but candidates with 1 year of experience will be considered. EPA Universal Certification required; additional HVAC/R certifications are a plus. Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and O&M manuals. Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-tech environments with minimal supervision. Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, safety-first mindset. Additional Skills & Qualifications Crane/rigging experience preferred. Proficiency in brazing and welding. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position requires working onsite at the Kato Fremont location, with occasional travel to the Fremont Factory as needed. You will be part of a team of 15 technicians, excluding engineers. The shift is from Sunday through Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm, with potential for changes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
