Job Title:
HVAC Service Technician Job Description This role focuses on servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of commercial HVAC systems throughout the Los Angeles Basin. You will perform complex mechanical and electrical repairs, support system startups, and ensure reliable operation of equipment in a field-based position. The ideal candidate works safely, communicates clearly, and operates independently in the field while contributing effectively as part of a broader service team. Responsibilities Perform a full range of HVAC repairs on commercial equipment, including split condensing unit repair and replacement, leak detection, and system maintenance. Service and maintain self-contained units, VRF systems, heat pumps, and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient performance. Work on commercial HVAC systems such as rooftop units, air handling units, hydronic systems, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and VAV boxes. Conduct general and preventive maintenance to maximize system longevity, efficiency, and reliability across all assigned equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including complex electrical problems involving low-voltage controls and high-voltage power. Perform system startups and verify proper operation of VRF systems and other commercial HVAC equipment. Use ServiceTitan or similar field service management software to accurately document diagnostics, repairs, parts used, recommendations, and follow-up needs using a company-provided tablet and phone. Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, dispatch, and internal team members regarding work performed, system status, and any required next steps. Drive a company van safely to job sites throughout the Los Angeles Basin and practice safe and compliant parking at all locations. Work independently in the field the majority of the time while following company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements. Use personal hand tools and PPE to perform all tasks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry best practices. Maintain a detail-oriented approach to documentation, safety practices, and care of tools, equipment, and company vehicle. Represent the company professionally at client sites by providing courteous, responsive, and solution-focused customer service. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of HVAC field experience, preferably in commercial service environments. Universal EPA Certification for handling refrigerants. Completion of HVAC trade school or relevant college coursework. Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, including cooling towers, chillers, pumps, air handling systems, ductwork, VAV systems, and boilers. Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including low-voltage controls and high-voltage power. Hands-on experience with VRF systems, including service and startup. Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical information related to HVAC systems and controls. Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively as part of a team when needed. Fluency in spoken and written English for effective communication and documentation. Ability to provide and use personal hand tools and PPE appropriate for HVAC service work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using ServiceTitan or similar field service management software for work orders and documentation. Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting skills for complex HVAC systems. Experience in field service work, including repair, preventive maintenance, and installation of HVAC equipment. Nice-to-have experience with additional electrical work related to HVAC systems. Comfort working alone in the field for the majority of the workday. Strong customer service skills and the ability to represent the company professionally at client sites. Work Environment This is a full-time field-based position serving commercial clients across the Los Angeles Basin, including the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Alhambra, San Marino, and nearby coastal areas. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with overtime as needed. You will operate a company-provided van to travel between job sites and are expected to drive and park safely in diverse urban and suburban environments. You will work independently in the field approximately 95% of the time, often in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other commercial facility spaces. The role requires regular use of personal hand tools and PPE, and you will use ServiceTitan software on a company-provided cell phone and tablet to manage work orders and documentation. The work environment emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and professional presentation at client locations. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Glendale, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
