Job Description

Kenyon & Sons Inc. (KSI) — Rancho Cordova / Greater Sacramento, CA About KSI Kenyon & Sons Inc. is a licensed
C-20 HVAC
contractor and DGS-certified small business serving commercial, institutional, and government clients across the Sacramento region. We maintain and service the equipment that keeps public facilities, agencies, and commercial buildings running. We're looking for a sharp, self-directed commercial service technician who takes ownership of their calls and represents the company well on customer sites. Position Summary Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems across a route of service and PM-contract accounts. This is a field-based role working primarily on rooftop units, split systems, package units, and controls in commercial and government buildings. You'll work independently most days, so we need someone who can troubleshoot, make the right call, document the work cleanly, and keep the customer informed. Key Responsibilities Service, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC equipment — RTUs, split systems, package units, heat pumps, exhaust and make-up air Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on PM-contract accounts (filters, belts, coils, refrigerant checks, electrical, controls) Diagnose electrical, mechanical, refrigerant, and control faults and repair to code Read and work from mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals Complete accurate service tickets, quote follow-up repairs, and flag replacement opportunities Communicate professionally with facility managers and on-site government/agency staff Maintain a stocked, organized service vehicle and account for parts and inventory Follow all safety, lockout/tagout, and site-specific requirements Preferred Add-On Skills (a strong plus, not required) Boiler service and repair — commercial hydronic and steam systems, controls, combustion Chiller service — air-cooled and water-cooled, troubleshooting, refrigerant management, plant equipment
VFD, BAS/DDC
controls (Honeywell, JCI, Alerton, or similar) Light commercial plumbing or sheet metal experience Candidates strong on boilers and/or chillers move to the top of the list. Required Qualifications 3+ years of commercial HVAC service experience EPA 608 Universal certification Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record (insurable) Solid electrical troubleshooting (single- and three-phase) Able to read gauges, meters, and manufacturer specs and work to UMC/code Able to pass a background check (required for government and secured facility access) Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working calls independently Able to lift 50+ lbs, work on rooftops/ladders, and handle the physical demands of field work Preferred Qualifications Boiler and/or chiller experience (see add-on section above) Controls / BAS experience Experience on government, institutional, or healthcare facility accounts Familiarity with prevailing-wage / certified-payroll job environments Bilingual a plus The Ideal Candidate You're a commercial tech who can pull up to a building, figure out what's wrong without hand-holding, fix it right the first time, and leave the customer confident in the work. You document cleanly because you know the ticket matters as much as the repair — especially on government accounts. You take pride in being the face of the company on site. If you've got boiler and chiller chops, that's the cherry on top; if not, but you're a strong commercial tech who wants to grow into plant equipment, we want to talk.
