Brief Summary:
In this role, you will lead the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential, light commercial, and packaged HVAC systems while serving as a technical expert and mentor for the team. You'll independently diagnose and resolve complex issues, size and install new systems, build lasting customer relationships, and model exceptional service and sales standards. You will coach junior technicians through hands-on training, ensure compliance with company procedures and safety standards, and collaborate with management to drive continuous process improvement and team performance.
Essential Functions:
Perform advanced HVAC equipment installations, preventive maintenance, and complex service repairs on residential, split, packaged, and light commercial heating and cooling systems. Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex HVAC system issues using advanced technical expertise and established best practices. Size, configure, and install new HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications, company standards, and applicable codes. Conduct comprehensive system inspections, identify repair or replacement needs, and recommend appropriate solutions to customers. Build and maintain strong customer relationships by delivering exceptional service, serving as the primary customer contact, and setting the standard for the team's customer experience. Model company sales standards by identifying replacement and service opportunities, educating customers on available solutions, and supporting team sales performance. Mentor and coach junior technicians through ride-alongs, hands-on training, and real-time guidance on technical execution, customer service, and sales conversion. Provide technical leadership in the field by assisting technicians with complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. Ensure all work performed by self meets company quality standards, safety requirements, EPA 608 regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal codes while promoting compliance across the team. Accurately document work performed, parts used, customer recommendations, and system findings in the company's work order system. Collaborate with supervisors and management to identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and service quality enhancements. Maintain company vehicle, tools, equipment, and inventory in a clean, organized, and service-ready condition. Participate in ongoing technical, leadership, and sales training while supporting the development of less experienced technicians. Coordinate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, sales personnel, and fellow technicians to ensure efficient scheduling, timely service delivery, and a high-quality customer experience. Demonstrate leadership by promoting teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and adherence to company values while serving as a trusted resource for the field team.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Required:
Minimum of 3-6 years of residential HVAC service, maintenance, or installation experience. EPA Section 608 Certification required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Working knowledge of residential HVAC systems, components, and equipment. Must be willing to travel Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, including attics, crawl spaces, and confined spaces. Advanced knowledge of residential, split, packaged, and light commercial HVAC systems, components, controls, and installation practices. Expert troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to independently resolve complex HVAC system issues. Thorough understanding of HVAC installation procedures, system sizing principles, electrical and mechanical components, refrigerant handling, and airflow fundamentals. Working knowledge of applicable building codes, manufacturer specifications, EPA regulations, and company safety standards. Ability to size and install new HVAC systems in accordance with industry best practices. Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to coach, develop, and support junior technicians through hands-on training and real-time feedback. Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally. Ability to identify customer needs, recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions, and model company sales standards while supporting team sales performance. Willingness to participate in ongoing technical and safety training. Ability to perform routine maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and standard HVAC repairs. Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration principles. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb, crawl, push, pull, reach, sit, stand, climb ladders, and work with various tools and equipment. Must not fear heights or steep roofs. Comfortable working 10-12hr days. Possess the ability to listen, understand, and communicate in writing and verbally. The employee will frequently be required to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
