Job Description
Senior HVAC TechnicianPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Technician to lead installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across medical, commercial, and hospitality environments. The ideal candidate will ensure reliable, efficient operation of HVAC equipment, maintain compliance with regulatory and safety standards, mentor junior technicians, and serve as a technical resource for complex projects and emergency responses.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead installation, commissioning, and start-up of HVAC systems including rooftop units, chillers, boilers, air handlers, VAV boxes, and packaged systems.
Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, and control systems to restore operation and optimize performance.
Conduct preventive maintenance programs and predictive inspections to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Ensure all work within medical facilities complies with infection control procedures, patient safety protocols, and facility-specific requirements (e.g., HEPA, positive/negative pressure environments).Maintain and calibrate HVAC controls and BMS/DDC systems (BACnet, Modbus, etc.), coordinate system programming changes, and validate control sequences.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship for junior technicians and apprentices; review work, provide training, and enforce safe work practices.
Respond to after-hours emergency calls and participate in rotating on-call schedules to support 24/7 operations.
Collaborate with project managers, facility managers, contractors, and vendors to plan and execute retrofit and service projects on commercial buildings and hotels.
Document work orders, service reports, maintenance logs, parts usage, and compliance records accurately in the CMMS.Manage parts inventory, order replacement components, and ensure proper storage and handling of refrigerants and hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
Adhere to local, state, and federal codes and standards, including ASHRAE guidelines, EPA refrigerant regulations, and workplace safety practices.
Support energy efficiency initiatives, recommend system upgrades or optimizations, and help implement sustainable HVAC solutions.
QualificationsMinimum 5+ years of hands-on HVAC experience with significant exposure to commercial and hospitality (hotel) systems; experience in medical or healthcare facilities strongly preferred.
HVAC/R certification or technical degree from an accredited trade school; associate degree in HVAC, mechanical technology, or related field preferred.
EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant handling; NATE certification, HVAC journeyman license, or equivalent credential preferred.
Proven experience with large equipment (chillers, boilers, rooftop units), controls (BACnet, Modbus, DDC/BMS), VFDs, and refrigeration systems.
Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, ability to read blueprints, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Familiarity with infection control procedures and regulatory requirements for work in medical environments (ICRA/CHP knowledge a plus).Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, local plumbing/electrical/mechanical codes) and commitment to safety best practices.
Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to interface professionally with clients, facility leadership, and vendors.
Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff, coordinating projects, and maintaining accurate digital records in CMMS.Valid drivers license, ability to pass background checks and drug screening, and capability to lift required weights, work at heights, and respond to on-call emergencies.
