Job Title:
Commercial HVAC Technician Job Description This role focuses on providing high-quality HVAC service to commercial customers. You will respond to service calls, travel to various customer sites, communicate clearly with building representatives, diagnose complex HVAC issues, and perform safe, efficient repairs across a wide range of commercial systems. Responsibilities Respond to commercial HVAC service calls and provide prompt, professional on-site support. Drive to multiple customer locations and represent the company with a courteous, customer-focused attitude. Discuss system issues with customers, gather relevant information, and explain findings and repair options in clear terms. Troubleshoot a wide variety of commercial HVAC systems, including rooftop units (RTUs), dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), air handlers, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), split systems, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, heat pumps, and hydronic systems. Diagnose and repair electrical and refrigeration components related to commercial HVAC equipment. Work with pneumatics and hydronics to identify performance issues and implement effective solutions. Perform routine and corrective maintenance on commercial HVAC equipment to optimize performance and extend system life. Use EPA Universal certification knowledge to safely handle refrigerants and comply with environmental regulations. Operate a company vehicle safely and maintain a clean, organized work area and vehicle interior. Utilize basic hand tools and HVAC-specific tools to complete repairs efficiently and accurately. Document work performed, including diagnostics, parts used, and recommendations for future service. Collaborate with team members and leadership to support high-quality service delivery and continuous improvement. Participate in company-sponsored ongoing training to stay current with evolving HVAC technologies and best practices. Essential Skills Minimum of 8+ years of experience as a Commercial HVAC Service Technician, including extensive troubleshooting of HVAC systems, electrical, and refrigeration. Hands-on experience servicing commercial rooftop units (RTUs), dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), split systems, chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps, and hydronic systems. Strong troubleshooting skills for complex commercial HVAC, electrical, and refrigeration issues. Ability to drive and operate a company vehicle safely and responsibly. Ownership and proficient use of basic hand tools and standard HVAC tools. EPA Universal certification with practical experience handling refrigerants in compliance with regulations. Solid understanding of commercial HVAC service practices, including diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance. Ability to communicate clearly with customers and team members, explaining technical issues in an accessible way. Capability to work independently in the field and manage time effectively across multiple service calls. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with commercial refrigeration systems beyond standard HVAC is a plus. Michigan Mechanical License is preferred and considered an advantage. Familiarity with pneumatics and hydronics in commercial building systems. Comfort working on a variety of commercial building HVAC equipment and configurations. Willingness to participate in ongoing training and continuous skill development. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work primarily in commercial buildings, providing field-based HVAC service as a Service Technician. The role involves traveling between customer sites in a company vehicle, working on a variety of commercial HVAC systems such as rooftop units, dedicated outdoor air systems, air handlers, VRF systems, VFDs, split systems, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, heat pumps, and hydronic systems. The environment is hands-on and equipment-focused, requiring the use of standard hand tools and HVAC tools. Work may include both indoor and rooftop settings typical of commercial facilities, with conditions varying by site and season. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $83200.00 - $104000.00/yr.
