Job Description We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Residential HVAC Installer to manage the complete installation and change-out of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential properties. This role serves as a technical leader in the field, providing guidance, training, and oversight to installation team members while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards.
Key Responsibilities and Duties System Installation:
Perform complete residential HVAC system installations and change-outs, including air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, coils, and duct modifications while serving as the lead technician on assigned projects and coordinating installation activities for crew members.
Blueprint & Design Execution:
Read, interpret, and accurately execute installation plans, schematics, and job specifications to ensure proper sizing, venting, and placement.
Refrigerant & Line Set Work:
Properly evacuate, pressure-test, and charge refrigerant into new systems, ensuring leak-free connections and adherence to EPA regulations.
Electrical & Mechanical Connections:
Install, connect, and safely wire HVAC units, thermostats (including smart/communicating models), and related electrical components.
Quality Assurance & Startup:
Complete system start-up, commissioning, testing, and balancing to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and customer comfort before project close-out. Conduct final quality reviews and ensure all installations meet company standards.
Compliance:
Strictly adhere to all relevant local, state, and national building codes, regulations, and safety standards (OSHA, EPA).
Customer Experience:
Professionally communicate the scope of work, timeline, and demonstrate the operation of the new system to the homeowner. Ensure the work site is clean and orderly upon completion.
Documentation:
Accurately complete installation checklists, time logs, warranty information, and inventory tracking for all materials used. Review project documentation completed by team members for accuracy and completeness.
Collaboration:
Work effectively with apprentices, installers, and other trades (electricians, plumbers) to ensure project timelines are met while providing training, coaching, and technical guidance as needed.
Team Leadership:
Serve as the on-site installation lead for assigned projects, helping coordinate daily activities, support technician development, maintain productivity standards, and promote a culture of safety and quality workmanship. Required Qualifications 5+ years of residential HVAC installation experience , including experience leading installation projects or supervising junior technicians. Strong understanding of current installation best practices, venting requirements, fuel lines, and ductwork principles, with the ability to troubleshoot installation challenges and provide technical guidance to other installers. Proficiency in using installation tools, including brazing torches, sheet metal tools, power tools, and vacuum pumps. Excellent verbal communication and professional interaction skills with team members and homeowners, with demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities. Valid state-issued Driver's License and a clean driving record. Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, and maneuver in tight/confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces) and in various weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Current EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (Type I and Type II minimum). NATE Certification (Installation specialty). Completion of an accredited HVAC technical school program or a formal apprenticeship. Experience with advanced sheet metal fabrication and duct modification. Previous experience serving as a Lead Installer, Crew Lead, Foreman, or similar field leadership role.
