Night Shift Description:
The HVAC Mechanic performs installation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across Holy Cross Health's main campus. This position reports to the Plant Supervisor and ensures clinical spaces maintain ASHRAE 170-compliant temperature, humidity, and pressure relationship parameters critical to patient safety and Joint Commission compliance.
POSITION SUMMARY
The HVAC Mechanic performs installation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across Holy Cross Health's main campus. This position reports to the Plant Supervisor and ensures clinical spaces maintain ASHRAE 170-compliant temperature, humidity, and pressure relationship parameters critical to patient safety and Joint Commission compliance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Perform scheduled PM and corrective maintenance on AHUs, FCUs, chillers, cooling towers, VAV systems, and split systems. Respond to HVAC service calls and BAS alarms throughout the campus. Maintain filter change schedules and document per infection control and TJC requirements. Compliance & Clinical Support Ensure all clinical and procedural spaces maintain ASHRAE 170-compliant temperature (68-75°F), humidity (30-60% RH), and pressure relationships. Support annual pressure relationship testing across OR suites, isolation rooms, and procedural areas. Document all HVAC work in CMMS and support TJC/CMS survey preparation. Refrigeration & Specialty Systems Service medical refrigeration equipment, laboratory cooling systems, and pharmacy refrigerators. Perform refrigerant leak detection, recovery, and recharge per EPA 608 regulations. Maintain refrigerant logbooks and submit reports per regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or GED required; completion of HVAC/R trade program preferred
Experience:
3+ years HVAC/R maintenance experience; healthcare or commercial preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
EPA Universal (608) certification required; OSHA 10 preferred; Florida HVAC license preferred
Technology/Tools:
Refrigerant recovery/recharge equipment, manifold gauges, BAS interface, Brightly Worxhub CMMS Preferred Qualifications NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification. Experience with Liebert CRAC unit maintenance (data center or OR support). BAS/controls interface experience (Tridium Niagara preferred). Chiller plant operation and maintenance experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; frequent ladder climbing and rooftop work. Exposure to refrigerants, extreme heat, and confined mechanical spaces. Must wear PPE including gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection. On-call rotation required for after-hours HVAC emergencies (e.g., OR CRAC failures).
