POSITION OVERVIEW
The Data Center HVAC Service Technician is responsible for the installation, startup, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mission-critical HVAC systems supporting data center environments. This role ensures maximum uptime, system reliability, and operational efficiency of cooling systems that support critical IT infrastructure. The technician will work closely with internal engineering teams, contractors, and end users to support ACI's growing presence in the data center sector.

Mechanical and HVAC Sales, a leading manufacturers' representative firm headquartered in Seattle with a growing global presence, is seeking a highly skilled HVAC Service Technician to support mission-critical data center environments. This role focuses on field execution, including preventative maintenance, diagnostics, emergency response, and system optimization of specialized HVAC equipment used in data centers. The ideal candidate has strong experience in commercial/industrial HVAC systems and is comfortable working in high-availability environments where downtime is not an option.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform startup, commissioning, and functional testing of HVAC systems supporting data centers (CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, and associated controls) Execute preventative and predictive maintenance on mission-critical cooling systems Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues to restore system functionality quickly and efficiently Respond to emergency service calls and participate in on-call rotation to support 24/7 operations Read and interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and sequences of operation Work with BAS systems and communicate using protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and TCP/IP Support system optimization, airflow balancing, and temperature/humidity control strategies Document all service activities, findings, and corrective actions in detailed service reports Ensure all work is performed in accordance with site-specific safety protocols and data center compliance standards Maintain professional communication with customers while representing ACI in a technical service capacity
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance and technical direction to junior technicians and subcontractors in the field.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC service Experience working in data centers or other mission-critical environments strongly preferred Associate degree in HVAC/R or equivalent technical training preferred Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, airside systems, hydronic systems, and controls Experience with BAS systems and networking fundamentals (BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation including equipment manuals, control sequences, and engineering drawings. Ability to effectively communicate technical information to customers and team members.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform calculations related to airflow, temperature, pressure, and system performance. Comfortable using basic diagnostic tools, meters, and manufacturer software.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to diagnose complex HVAC system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions in high-pressure environments where uptime is critical.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS EPA
Universal Certification required Valid driver's license with clean driving record Additional certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, manufacturer training, controls certifications) preferred
COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Experience with service software, BAS interfaces, and diagnostic tools

Ability to work in mission-critical environments with strict operational protocols Willingness to work non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality Ability to work independently and as part of a team Capable of working in extreme temperatures and physically demanding conditions Ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and access rooftops Comfortable working around high noise levels and energized equipment
Pay:
$62,400.00 - $83,200.00 per year
