Shift:
3:30 p.m. to 12:00 midnight Monday through Friday What you'll do and what you'll bring:
Position Function:
Under supervision, perform service required in the operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, and related equipment, complying with EPA, OSHA, and all appropriate regulations and codes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Perform maintenance and repair work on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment, and report work performed on Preventive Maintenance Forms. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and measuring instrumentation and equipment. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, high humidity, noise, heights, fumes, odors, oils, chemicals, dust, and may be required to wear a filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to receive, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information. 2. Troubleshoot, adjust, repair and calibrate controls on all HVAC equipment. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and measuring instrumentation and equipment. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, high humidity, noise, heights, fumes, odors, oils, chemicals, dust, and may be required to wear a filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information. 3. Inspect, maintain, and lubricate HVAC related pumps, motors, dampers, and other related equipment; inspect and clean coils and fans; inspect belts, vibration absorbers, and other related equipment. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and measuring instrumentation and equipment. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, high humidity, noise, heights, fumes, odors, oils, chemicals, dust, and may be required to wear a filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Read and interpret drawings, diagrams and specifications pertaining to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. Requires the physical ability to kneel, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, talk, hear, and exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the efficiently operate a computer keyboard as prescribed by management. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information. 5. Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job related chemicals, environmental concerns, and technological improvements/advancements. Requires the physical ability to finger, grasp, stand, and exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color, read small print, and perceive depth. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions. Task requires the mental ability to receive, comprehend, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information. 6. Inspect, maintain, repair, and install insulation on water lines, steam lines, pumps, and other HVAC related equipment. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, hear, stand and/or stoop for extended periods of time, and exert in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and measuring instrumentation and equipment. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, high humidity, noise, heights, fumes, odors, oils, chemicals, dust, and may be required to wear a filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to receive, follow, and provide oral instructions and information, and to read, comprehend, follow and provide written instructions and information. 7. Operate building automation systems related to HVAC, including computer hardware and software. Requires the ability to efficiently operate a computer keyboard as prescribed by management. Task requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, hear, stand and/or stoop for extended periods of time, and exert in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly. Employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, high humidity, noise, and heights. Construct, fabricate, remodel, maintain, and repair air system fabrications for HVAC Systems as directed. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and measuring instrumentation and equipment. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, high humidity, noise, heights, fumes, odors, oils, chemicals, dust, and may be required to wear a filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. May require any or all of the above mentioned abilities.
Minimum Education:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum Experience:
1.Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training; or six (6) years of experience in HVAC; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University. 2.Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures, and communications, and perform mathematical functions. 3.Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy. 4.Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty. 5.You must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Education:
Vocational School Training Preferred Experience:
1.Experience with electronic controls for HVAC systems. 2.Over six (6) years of HVAC experience.
