Job Description
CLTCC serves local communities with 5 campuses: Alexandria Main Campus, Huey P. Long Campus in Winnfield, Ferriday Campus, Rod Brady Campus in Jena, and the Ward H. Nash Avoyelles Campus in Cottonport. Additionally, CLTCC provides instruction for multiple correctional facilities. Position is domiciled at the Alexandria Campus.
SUMMARY:
Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) seeks an enthusiastic and student centered individual to serve as an Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technician (HVAC) Instructor. This position plays a key role in preparing students for careers in the HVAC industry and related fields. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for student success, program growth, and strong collaboration with business and industry partners, secondary educational partners, and other post-secondary partners. The HVAC Technician program at CLTCC equips students with the skills for employment in a variety of jobs in the field of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration. Students learn to install, diagnose, repair and maintain the operating condition of domestic, residential, and commercial heating/air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The instructor is responsible for preparing for class, delivering lectures, facilitating discussions, giving assignments, maintaining records, grading work and advising students. Duties include facilitating classes, working in the laboratory, knowledge of the most up to equipment and laws related to the field. The ideal candidate is an experienced, enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who loves working with people, and is dedicated to student success. Reports to the Dean of Technical and Industrial Studies and the Alexandria Campus Dean. The HVAC Instructor will foster student engagement in academic and extracurricular activities across campus and promote the HVAC Technician program at recruitment events and through community outreach. The instructor will participate in both college and campus initiatives, including student success efforts, campus activities, and serve on academic and technical committees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Scope of Responsibilities 1. Practice excellence in teaching and instruction. 2. Demonstrate evidence of professional growth and academic best practices. 3. Carry out the responsibilities specific to his/her area, department and/or program. 4. Work with the Dean of Technical and Industrial Studies and Executive Vice Chancellor to ensure both HVAC accreditation and SACSCOC accreditation compliance. 5. Contribute to the CLTCC Community by participation in service activities as needed and required. 6. Contribute to the local community by participating in service activities as needed and required. 7. Adhere to CLTCC policies and procedures. 8. Other responsibilities as assigned B. Teaching and Instruction 1. Begin class on time in an orderly, organized fashion. 2. Be courteous to and approachable by students. 3. Follow approved policies and procedures in the conduct of all instructional activities. 4. Maintain a positive and engaging learning environment for all students 5. Use effective motivation to help stimulate a personal desire to learn the subject/skill(s). 6. Assist in the continuous improvement of curriculum to meet industry standards & emerging technologies 7. Deliver hands-on, high-quality instruction in HVAC-related subjects in both classroom and field settings. 8. Meet and assist students during office hours. 9. Prepare and complete course syllabi to ensure it is updated and accurate each semester. 10. Being punctual and working on your scheduled workday is an essential function of this job. 11. Coordination of Occupational Advisory Meetings, attendance with committee meetings, conferences on instruction and other professional organization meetings. 12. Constantly strive to improve instruction through: a. Self-analysis and evaluation. b. Observation and study of new instructional techniques for lecture, laboratory or performance courses. c. The use of technology where applicable to enhance the learning environment. d. Re-evaluation and re-definition of instructional objectives. e. Continual revision of and updating of course content and materials of instruction to ensure it is relevant to industry needs and wants. f. Re-evaluation and re-definition of instructional objectives. g. Continual revision and updating of course content and materials of instruction. h. Attendance at the division meetings, conferences on improvement of instruction, and such activities as may be required for self-improvement. 13. Participate in College recruitment events. (i.e. College fairs, Community events, school events, etc). 14. Serve on college committees and support student organizations (i.e. Skills
USA, SGA, PTK
etc). 15. Participate in Professional development activities as required. 16. Participate in industry visits. 17. Meet all deadlines related to this function
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Excellent written, oral presentation, and interpersonal communication skills Superior team-building skills to build trust with others in a rapidly changing environment Excellent organization, planning, and prioritization skills are essential High School Diploma/GED, four-years or the equivalent of four years work experience in the field related to the occupational program. Technical Diploma or Associates preferred. Broad knowledge and understanding regarding teaching practices and classroom management. A strong commitment to and passion for the mission of the comprehensive community college Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Demonstrated Ability to: Work collaboratively with other administrative departments and government agencies related to HVAC. Provide excellent customer service to faculty, staff, current students, prospective students, alumni, industry partners, community representatives and other stakeholders. Preferred (Desired)
Qualifications:
Prior Teaching Experience Working experience with Ellucian's Banner or other major student information system
Knowledge of Canvas and DegreeWorks Additional Requirements:
A valid Louisiana Driver's License Proof of motor vehicle insurance In accordance with LCTCS Policy #6:036, a criminal history check will be conducted on all new hires. LCTCS participates in the federal E-Verify system for identification and employment eligibility purposes.
